Netflix movies 2022: Luther

One of the biggest releases of 2022 will hands down be Luther. Mark my words.

Why is Luther one of the best Netflix movies coming in 2022? First off, Idris Elba will be returning as the titular murder detective. And secondly, the television series was just too good of a show for John Luther’s story to officially come to an end. We need more of this crime drama in any way, shape, or form. Fortunately, we won’t be saying goodbye to Luther just yet with the arrival of the upcoming film.

Luther has been in development since 2013, and now the movie spin-off is finally making major headway. It was reported that filming officially started in October 2021 via an Instagram post by Luther‘s leading actor Idris Elba. It’s unclear when filming wrapped but the movie is currently in post-production.

Although an official synopsis hasn’t been released yet, I think it’s safe to say that the upcoming movie will continue the plot of the TV show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, in the new film installment, DCI Luther will be facing two new threats. Cynthia Erivo joins Luther as a detective and Luther’s nemesis, and Andy Serkis will play the main villain.

We’re still waiting on an official release date, but our best guess is that the movie will be released in the second half of 2022.
