Locke and Key season 3, episode 5 recap: Siege

Despite finding Dodge’s body under Bode’s bed, Nina doesn’t immediately realize what has happened and Dodge (as Bode) manages to play it off by telling her a version of the truth. He claims that while using the Time Shift Key, Dodge grabbed his leg and traveled back to the present with him, which is true. But he leaves out the part about the Ghost Key, making it sound like Dodge came back and then her body went limp.

He didn’t want them to be mad, so he shoved her under his bed. But Nina isn’t stupid, she knows something else is wrong. She loops in Kinsey and Tyler, who now has his memories restored, and Nina introduces them to the Time Shift Key. They notice the hourglass is slowly running out of sand. What happens when it does? They call Duncan, since they know he understands how to use it, but he doesn’t answer.

Gideon is growing increasingly impatient as he waits for the keys, so he goes after Dodge/Bode, reminding Dodge that she’s in a mortal’s body now and he could kill her at any time. For some reason, Dodge lies to Gideon about where the keys are, claiming she still doesn’t know the new hiding place yet. Gideon gives her until that evening to find out before he and his cronies lay siege to Keyhouse.

Dodge hatches a new plan, snapping Bode’s Nintendo Switch in half so she has an excuse to ask for the Mending Key, which should lead her to the chest. Kinsey tells Dodge/Bode that she’ll give it to him soon, after she and Tyler check out Dodge’s body. Well Dodge grows increasingly impatient and ultimately snaps, blowing her cover and threatening Nina with a knife. At the same time, Tyler and Kinsey put two-and-two together regarding Dodge’s vacant body and the fact Bode had the Ghost Key on him when he started acting weird.

They rush downstairs and use the Chain Key on Dodge to keep her from killing Nina. But before they can save Bode and retrieve his ghost, Gideon and his men show up at the house. The Lockes are forced to team-up with Dodge to fight them since Dodge doesn’t actually agree with Gideon’s plans to ruin “meatworld” (Dodge’s term) and flood it with demons. Dodge wants Gideon gone, too and she knows Gideon is much more powerful than she is.

The Lockes arm themselves with keys and give Dodge the Angel Key so she can assist in the fight. Things go well at first and Dodge even saves Kinsey from Coffey, (and later kills him) earning her trust enough that she gives her the Alpha Key to use on Gideon and kill the demon inside. But then Gideon shoots Dodge, wounding Bode and regains the upperhand. Nina and Tyler are forced to hand over the Harlequin Key to the chest so that Gideon won’t kill Bode.

As all the commotion is happening, Kinsey gets a return call from Duncan. He tells them that when the hourglass runs out, anything that was brought to the present from the past will disappear to prevent a time paradox from happening.

In the house, Dodge sneaks up behind Gideon, prepared to use the Alpha Key while he’s distracted with the chest, but just before she can do it the hourglass runs out and Dodge, in Bode’s body, blinks out of existence! Even worse, Gideon manages to get his hands on all the keys and starts opening the portal as Kinsey, Tyler and Nina run from the house.

During the siege at Keyhouse, Rufus tells Ellie what happened and Ellie tries to contact Nina, but Nina doesn’t answer. They agree to go to Keyhouse together to see what’s happening.
