The Sandman episode 9 recap: Collectors

Rose has got some explaining to do once Lyta realizes she’s pregnant in real life too, not just her dream. Meanwhile, Matthew the raven tells Lucienne about Lyta’s pregnancy, alerting her that what she feared is now happening. According to Lucienne, Rose is unintentionally weakening the walls between the waking world and the dream world. But because of their argument, Lucienne doesn’t want to tell Dream.

The Corinthian takes Jed to get ice cream and they call up Rose on the phone. They tell her to meet them at the Royal Empire Hotel in Georgia, which is hosting something called a “Cereal Convention.” Of course, we know this is the serial killer convention which the Corinthian is set to be a special guest. But Jed and Rose have no idea.

Gilbert volunteers to go to Georgia with Rose, while Lyta experiences more consequences of Rose’s powers in the dream world. She wants to live with Hector in her dreams, and then an earthquake of sorts happen. There are literal cracks in the Earth forming.

A character named Mervyn Pumpkinhead (Mark Hamill) tells Dream about the seismic activity going on with the earthquakes, and Dream says he will find the cause and “eliminate” it. Of course, Dream still wants the Vortex to lead him to the Corinthian and Fiddler’s Green, but the clock is ticking.

Rose falls asleep while in the car on the way to Georgia, and sees Lyta in the dream world. Dream suddenly appears, telling Hector that he is simply a ghost hiding in the dream world and directs him to go to his place in the dead. Hector and Lyta don’t like this, but Dream has the upper hand and makes Hector disintegrate. He fades away as Dream tells Lyta, “your husband died a long time ago.”

To make matters worse, Dream also tells Lyta that he will come back to take her baby, as because it was conceived in the dream world, he believes that it’s his. Rose threatens Dream and tells him to leave her universe alone.

While at the convention, the Corinthian flights with a fan who calls himself The Boogieman. However, the Corinthian knows that the real Boogieman died years ago, and that this guy’s name is actually an editor/writer named Philip Sitz. He alerts the convention leads and they form a plan.

Rose and Gilbert arrive at the convention and are able to sneak in to look for Jed. Rose is then surprised to find out from the front desk concierge that Gilbert had left, giving her a key to a room.

Meanwhile in the dream world, Lucienne tells Dream that Rose did find the Corinthian and Fiddler’s Green. Gilbert shows up, revealing himself to be Fiddler’s Green! He explains that the Corinthian is leading a cult and is trying to destroy the waking world.

At the end of episode 9, Corinthian leads Philip to a quiet room and starts making out with him as a distraction. The Good Doctor and Nimrod appear and they kill Philip, all while Jed looks in and runs away, horrified. Fun Land, who’s working one of the welcome desks, assures Jed that he’ll be safe with him, leading him up to his hotel room. But soon enough it becomes apparent that this is not safe at all.

Jed and Rose reunite in the hallway and are able to escape from Fun Land. But the danger doesn’t stop there. The Corinthian appears and stabs Fun Land in the back, telling the siblings: “You’re safe with me.”
