We’re just days away from the release of The Sandman and Netflix fans better get ready for what’s bound to be an epic binge! If you’re not familiar with the Neil Gaiman comic book series of the same name that the new show is based on, we’d still recommend you checking it out! Fantasy lovers are about to find their next obsession in The Sandman.

The Netflix Original follows the character Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), the ruler of the dream world who is held hostage for over 100 years by mortals. Once he gets out, he returns to his realm but finds that a lot has changed since he’s been gone.

There are multiple volumes of The Sandman comic book series, meaning a lot of potential for more seasons. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s talk about the 10 episodes which will premiere this Friday, August 5 on Netflix.

The Sandman season 1 episode count and episode titles

As of right now, The Sandman has not been renewed for a second season yet, but we do know season 1 will include 10 episodes.

The titles are as follows:

  • Chapter 1: “Sleep of the Just”
  • Chapter 2: “Imperfect Hosts”
  • Chapter 3: “Dream a Little Dream of Me”
  • Chapter 4: “A Hope in Hell”
  • Chapter 5: “24/7”
  • Chapter 6: “The Sound of Her Wings”
  • Chapter 7: “The Doll’s House”
  • Chapter 8: “Playing House”
  • Chapter 9: “Collectors”
  • Chapter 10: “Lost Hearts”

Then, on August 19, Netflix released a surprise, bonus episode containing a two-part story based on a beloved issue of the comic series.

  • Chapter 11: “A Dream of a Thousand Cats/Calliope”

The first four episode titles match with the corresponding chapters in the first volume of The Sandman comic, called Preludes & Nocturnes. The show skips around a little after that, with the comic chapter “Passengers” missing.

The episode called “24/7” is based on the comic chapter “24 Hours.” The comic chapter “Sound and Fury” is omitted from the show, and then it gets back on track with “The Sound of Her Wings.” The Sandman season 1 goes past the first volume of the comic. We’ll be curious to see what fans of the source material think of what the show’s writers decided to include.

Previously, Neil Gaiman tweeted that there would be 11 episodes of The Sandman on Netflix, but it appeared to be false after only 10 episodes dropped. Now it looks like he had hinted at a bonus episode from the beginning.
