Purple Hearts ending explained and spoilers: Do Cassie and Luke end up together?
Purple Hearts starring Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine is now streaming on Netflix. The new Netflix original movie is based on the novel of the same name by Tess Wakefield and tells an unforgettable love story between an aspiring musician and a troubled U.S. Marine.
If you’re a fan of Nicholas Sparks and Jojo Moyes’s work, then Purple Hearts is just the movie for you. The romantic drama will take you on an emotional journey. At one point you’re laughing, the next you’re crying. Still, you can’t help but see the movie through to the end to see how everything turns out for the main characters.

Purple Hearts ending
After Cassie confronts Luke about his involvement with Johnno, she kicks him out of her house and tells him he has until she gets back from her show to get his stuff and leave. She also tells him that he can stay with his dad and brother and tell them they’re getting divorced.
While Cassie’s performing at her show later that night, Luke runs around the city to build up his stamina and to get his legs moving again. While taking a break from running, a U.S. Marine pulls up in his car in front of Luke. He tells Luke he must return to the Marine Corps Base with him. Later, Cassie receives a call from Luke’s father telling her that Luke has been charged with fraud and detained. He also tells Cassie that Luke’s trial will be in a few weeks and that the police will soon question her about her role in the marriage scheme.
Then, it cuts to the day of Luke’s trial, and Cassie shows up at the Marine Corps Base where the trial is taking place. As Luke is being read his charges, he starts to think about how all of it will affect Cassie. After coming to a decision, Luke announces to the military judge that he would like to make a statement. He lies and tells the military judge that he coerced Cassie to participate in the fraudulent marriage to protect her. The military judge takes Luke’s word and tells him that after he completes his six-month sentence, he will be discharged for bad conduct. Cassie gets off scot-free.
Then, there are cuts between Cassie and her band performing at the Hollywood Bowl and Luke getting his stuff ready to serve his sentence. As Cassie sings, she begins to have flashbacks of all the good times she and Luke shared. But what does this mean?
Do Cassie and Luke end up together in Purple Hearts?
Yes! Once Cassie finishes her song, she runs to her dressing room to get her stuff to leave. She’s so focused on getting to where she needs to go that she even ignores her fans. As she’s driving to her destination, she calls Luke. At this moment, viewers realize Cassie is headed to meet with Luke, but Luke isn’t picking up the phone.
Luke arrives on base to serve his sentence and says his goodbyes to his family as Cassie pulls up. Cassie gets out of the car and runs up to Luke. She tells Luke she wants to be with him and will wait for him while he serves his sentence. Cassie finishes her emotional speech by telling Luke that she loves him. Luke’s hesitant to reply at first, but then he tells Cassie he loves her back. Cassie and Luke share a passionate kiss while Luke’s family cheer them on in the background.
After they stop kissing, Luke gives Cassie his ring and tells her to take good care of it before he walks off to get in a van. As Cassie watches Luke leave, she slides the ring on her finger. Once the van begins pulling off, Cassie repeatedly screams “I love you” to Luke.
Then, it fasts forward six months with Luke now a free man. Cassie and Luke are shown walking to the beach with their dog to have a picnic. As they walk around the beach, they seem to be happily in love. The movie ends with Cassie and Luke running into the water, holding hands.
