Executive producer Reese Witherspoon is bringing us a tantalizing new psychological thriller series this weekend titled Surface. And if that isn’t enough to entice you then maybe the involvement of talented actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw (who stars alongside Witherspoon on their Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show) will.
The eight-episode series follows Sophie (Mbatha-Raw), a woman who has suffered a traumatic head injury that left her with extreme memory loss. It is believed that Sophie’s injury resulted from a suicide attempt, but she can’t remember the specifics.
Throughout the show’s eight episodes, Sophie will try to piece together her life before the incident with the assistance of her husband and friends, but who can she trust? And how can she know for sure that the truth she discovers is the real deal?
Described as a “sexy, elevated thriller” Surface is a story of self-discovery and the choices we make while searching for our identity. The series was created as a collaboration between Apple Studios and Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine.
Besides Mbatha-Raw, it also stars Haunting of Hill House actor Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Stephan James, Ari Graynor, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, François Arnaud and Millie Brady.
Can you watch Surface on Netflix?
You will not be able to watch the show on Netflix as it is an Apple TV+ series. However, Netflix has tons of psychological thrillers available to watch if you’re interested. Check out shows like Clickbait, Behind Her Eyes, The Sinner, You, Stay Close, Open Your Eyes and the upcoming Netflix series Echoes.
Or if you want to watch more Mbatha-Raw projects, Netflix has plenty, including Fast Color, The Cloverfield Paradox, Summerland, Irreplaceable You and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. She also appears in an episode of the Netflix anthology series Easy and one of the most popular and acclaimed episodes of Black Mirror, “San Junipero.”
Where to watch Surface
The only place you can watch the thriller series is through Apple TV+. You will need to purchase a subscription, or at least a free trial, to watch the series. The first three episodes are now available and the rest will debut weekly.
