Virgin River season 4 ending explained: Is Jack the father of SPOILER’s baby?
By Reed Gaudens
Virgin River season 4 is now streaming on Netflix, and it’s the season we have been waiting for. All of our questions have been answered, and so many more have been asked.
When we last left our favorite characters in the season 3 finale, Mel dropped a bombshell on Jack that she’s pregnant… and he might not be the father. Don’t forget, he’s expecting twins with Charmaine, another stress-inducing matter for the father-to-be that takes a surprising turn.
Elsewhere in the season 4 finale, Mel makes a life-changing career choice, Denny reveals the mysterious truth about himself to Lizzie, and Preacher has a heated encounter that might have a little something to do with who shot Jack.
If you’re still in shock after watching the season 4 finale unfold and need more information, we’re digging into four of the biggest moments and explaining what went down!
WARNING: Spoilers from Virgin River season 4 ahead!
Why does Mel quit her job in Virgin River season 4?
In the run up of the end of the episode, Mel makes a huge decision about her future with the clinic. Since Cameron (new cast member Mark Ghanimé) remains set on leaving due to his issues with Mel and Jack (more Jack than Mel, but that’s another story), Mel decides to take one for the team and resign.
The way Mel figures it, if she removes herself from the situation, Cameron will be able to stay on as the second doctor and Doc won’t have to look for a replacement. Plus, she makes an educated assumption that her high-risk pregnancy will eventually result in bedrest. Doc isn’t too happy with Mel’s decision to leave! We’ll see what happens in season 5.
What’s wrong with Denny in Virgin River season 4?
Throughout the season, Doc’s grandson Denny (new cast member Kai Bradbury) had been getting closer to Lizzie. However, any time she seemed to want to continue exploring their growing relationship, he would shut things down without explanation.
In the season 4 finale, Lizzie’s up for the job of being Hope’s aide, but they’re unsure of offering her the position due to her falling out with Denny. When Denny overhears Doc telling Mel about the job, Denny visits Lizzie and confesses that he’s sick with Huntington’s disease.
Does Vince die in Virgin River season 4?
The situation between Preacher, Paige, and Vince comes to a head in the season finale, with Vince, who’s revealed as Jack’s shooter from season 2, holding Paige at gunpoint and demanding to know where she buried Wes. Preacher interjects and says that she doesn’t know because he buried his brother.
Preacher lunges for Vince, and their altercation allows Paige time to run for the door. After a rogue gunshot, Vince’s gun falls to the ground and rolls to Paige. When he knocks out Preacher, Paige threatens to shoot him, but before she can pull the trigger, Preacher emerges from the ground and hits Vince over the head with a fire log.
Vince appears to be dead, though he could also just be unconscious. Either way, Preacher and Paige are out of the woods… for now.
Is Jack the father of Charmaine’s twins in Virgin River season 4?
Mel and Jack are forced to leave their dinner early when Jack receives a frantic phone call from Charmaine. The newly engaged couple rushes to her home, where they find her lying on the floor and crying. Charmaine, who’s five months pregnant with twins, can’t breathe due to what seems like a panic attack and a potential issue with her pregnancy.
While Jack calls for an ambulance, Charmaine tells Mel that Todd’s leaving her and she’s scared that she’s going to lose her babies to “karma.” In one final, shocking revelation, Charmaine says she’s being punished for lying to Jack about him being the father of the twins. For those keeping score: Jack’s the father of Mel’s baby, but not Charmaine’s.
