Virgin River season 5 has officially started filming (and there’s an episode count!)

These days, there’s so much wonderful news for fans of Virgin River. Not only does the highly anticipated fourth season premiere July 20 on Netflix, but the cast and crew have already gotten to work on Virgin River season 5.

Following the successful release of season 3 in July 2021, Netflix went ahead and renewed Virgin River for two more seasons. That order included season 4 and the forthcoming Virgin River season 5, which has already begun filming in Canada.

On July 18, the official Virgin River account on Instagram shared an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the cast together on a video call having a table read for season 5. The account also confirmed that the fifth season is now in production.

Ahead of the Virgin River season 4 premiere, we have learned so much information about Virgin River season 5, including the new showrunner and the episode count. To celebrate the upcoming new seasons, here’s everything we know so far about season 5.

Virgin River season 5 production updates

Along with the announcement that Virgin River season 5 started filming, the series also received a new boss. Patrick Sean Smith will take over showrunner duties for the fifth season. Smith has worked on shows such as Supernatural, Greek, and Chasing Life, and he also worked as the showrunner on Dolly Parton’s Netflix series Heartstrings.

Additionally, we have also learned how many episodes will be in Virgin River season 4. The first three seasons contained 10 episodes each, but season 4 was expanded to include 12. According to Alexandra Breckenridge, season 5 will also have 12 episodes. How exciting!

There’s so much more Virgin River to come in the future, and we can’t wait to see what the fourth season brings for our favorite characters. Not to mention, we can’t wait to see what the cast teases this summer as they get into filming season 5.
