One of the most intriguing mysteries in the Netflix Resident Evil series revolves around the existence of sisters Billie and Jade Wesker. We’re told they are half-twins, having had different egg donors. But there’s more to it than that.

Spoilers ahead for Resident Evil

Mid-way through the season, when Jade and Billie start to make shocking discoveries about their father and his involvement with Umbrella, Jade questions Albert as to why they don’t have birth certificates or why it seems like they don’t exist at all. Albert tells them their birth mother’s names, but is that the truth?

Resident Evil: Who are Jade and Billie Wesker’s moms?

Albert claims that Billie and Jade’s mothers are two women named Tara Sutton and Alex Shaum. He also says they were born at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine in San Francisco, California.

The real question might be, what happened to Tara and Alex? Were their eggs taken without their consent? The whole thing is suspicious since we know Albert is a clone. And that draws more questions because Evelyn tells Jade and Billie that Albert genetically engineered their blood to cure his sickness.

Because he’s a clone, Albert aged rapidly from 0 to 20 in less than six months. That kind of rapid cell growth causes all kinds of problems. Albert has been taking injections of the twins’ blood since they were young to keep him healthy. It sounds like he did have egg donors and used his sperm to make the twins, but he also tampered with their DNA on some level to ensure their blood could fix him.

Then there’s the whole cloning process itself which Evelyn claims involves some DNA, empty cells and “a very unfortunate woman.” It all seems hard to process. But we can assume, for now that Albert would be able to have children despite being a clone.

If Tara and Alex really are the names of Billie and Jade’s mothers, then I certainly think the mystery becomes what Umbrella, or Albert, even, might have done to them.
