Netflix Resident Evil episode 6 recap: Someone’s Little Girl

Well, if you were expecting a heartfelt sisterly reunion, that’s not quite what we get when Jade and Billie finally meet again in 2036. After spending the bulk of the previous episode in 2022, Resident Evil episode 6 is mostly about Jade in the future.

The episode begins with Jade being held captive by Billie and Umbrella. Billie taunts Jade about their past. Apparently, the last time she saw Jade, she had done six months in Tokyo, a year in Greenland and she’d also been pregnant at 18. Jade lies and tells Billie she lost her baby, although we know Bea is alive and well.

Billie wants to know where The University is, but Jade refuses to tell her. Then Billie clears out the room and flips a switch, suddenly she’s Jade’s loving sister again, setting her free, apologizing and removing the tracker from Jade’s arm. I don’t know, seems sketchy to me Jade!

But she doesn’t question it, just runs off, grabbing Mother Zero’s head on her way. Upon exiting, she runs into Gideon and a few other people from The University who take her back with them. The University, is on a ship. Smart to keep moving on water and stay hidden from Umbrella.

Once on the ship, Jade shares a sweet reunion with Arjun and her daughter. Bea has been religiously practicing piano and wants Jade to attend her recital. Before that, though, Jade has a project she wants to work on in the lab with her best friend and fellow scientist, Amrita (Ayushi Chhabra). Amrita is a passionate scientist and she’s expecting a baby with her husband Paolo. It looks like Jade’s missed a lot of developments in the past six months.

Together, they dissect Mother Zero’s head and, after hours of trial and error, discover that Jade’s spit allows them to isolate certain pheromones in the tissue sample. Amrita agrees to start isolating them so Jade can make it to Bea’s recital. Jade’s absence has become a point of contention between her and Arjun. Even though jade says everything she’s doing out in the world is for Bea, she’s constantly putting her life at risk and Arjun argues that Bea needs a mother more than a hero.

Missing the recital for work wouldn’t be a good look. Jade does make it in time and Bea is clearly some kind of prodigy as she effortlessly plays Beethoven. But then halfway through the performance, Jade gets a page from Amrita. The samples are ready. She can’t resist and leaves early. To be fair, the discovery they make is monumental.

They realize that by using a concoction of these pheromones, they can create two separate solutions—one that would camouflage you from zeroes and one that attracts them. If you could mass-produce something like that, they could protect entire cities from zeroes. They’ll need to test it out on a real zero to ensure it works and agree to do so later.

Except Jade is Jade and she can’t wait. That night she sneaks out on her own to retrieve one of the many zeroes floating around underwater and takes it back to her lab, securing it in hanging cuffs. Bea comes to check on her mother and is shocked to see a zero in the room. But Jade explains to her that she’s doing something to help the world.

She tells Bea she can watch so long as she stays all the way across the room, near the door. Then jade sprays herself with the masking pheromones and it works! The zero doesn’t even flinch when she gets close to it, as if it can’t see her at all.

Unfortunately, Bea being the curious child she is, can’t help but slowly inch closer. The zero does see her and lunges at her, breaking its cuffs and getting free. Jade screams at Bea to run and she does, the zero giving chase out the door and across the ship out to the deck where it attacks a poor, unsuspecting Amrita.

The zombie viciously attacks her, biting and killing her along with her unborn baby. Paolo arrives seconds later and is devastated by Amrita’s death. Jade takes the blame and Paolo steals a gun from a guard and tries to shoot her, forcing Arjun to intervene. And as if that’s not enough, overhead helicopters arrive. It looks like Umbrella has finally found the University.

While the 2022 timeline is only briefly shown this week, it does contain at least one vital revelation. After talking with the girls in the previous episode, Albert returns to Umbrella to take care of Angel. Since he knows about Billie’s bite, Albert needs to kill him. However, he can’t do that without Evelyn becoming suspicious so he concocts a lie about injecting Angel with a “truth serum,” warning her that it might not work.

Remember, Evelyn still wants to use Angel to find a “mole” in the company regarding who might have leaked info regarding the dog. Albert administers the drug and Angel dies shortly after. But during an autopsy Evelyn realizes that Albert gave Angel a much higher dose of the chemical than he was supposed to.

She throws him in a cell and Albert recognizes someone familiar in the room adjacent to his… an identical version of himself?! Does Albert have a twin brother?
