Netflix Resident Evil episode 5 recap: Home Movies

The fifth episode of Resident Evil focuses heavily on the 2022 timeline as we finally start to get some answers regarding the truth about Albert Wesker. It starts with Evelyn calling Albert into work in the middle of the night so he can use some of his old tricks to torture Angel Rubio into telling them where he got his information about the dog and someone being bitten.

Meanwhile, at home, Jade finally tells Billie about the weird stuff she’s discovered about Umbrella, including footage of the Tijuana incident. They start snooping through their dad’s things in search of answers and find bullets and a dog whistle.

It’s especially strange because Albert has always told them he hates guns. Then Jade uncovers a secret laptop under Albert’s bed that uses a different password than his normal Spock22. She calls Simon and asks him to help them hack into it.

Thanks to some TV hacking, Simon gets into the laptop and discovers that Albert has a dead drop email that is set to send an email to Billie if he doesn’t stop it every day. The email sends the girls on a weird scavenger hunt with the ultimate goal a go-bag filled with cash, passports and a gun. Their findings and the stress of these discoveries cause the girls to fight, but they make up pretty quickly and head to their next destination: a secret basement downstairs.

Inside, they find all their vials of blood and a bunch of old videos from Raccoon City 1998. One of them contains chilling footage of… Lisa Trevor! And she looks identical to her game counterpart, complete with the giant creepy eye tumor on her back. The video shows Albert approaching Lisa and injecting her with something. Billie and Jade are, understandably, completely freaked out.

Then they find Albert’s observational notes on Billie and the virus. They even spot a chair that he was going to use to contain Billie if she turned. In the process of trying to leave, they trigger an emergency burn sequence that sets everything on fire. Albert arrives in time to turn it off and save Jade and Billie, but they obviously don’t trust him at all at the moment.

They question him about their lives. Where are their birth certificates? Where were they born? Why does he have their blood in a mini fridge? At least he tells them their donor’s names, Tara Sutton and Alex Shaum, he also claims they were born at UCSF Med in San Francisco.

Albert tries to get closer to the girls to talk to them, triggering Jade to attack him. The girls handcuff him to the chair he was going to use to contain Billie. When he wakes up, he’s impressed that Billie is okay and somehow beat the virus. While tormenting Angel, he reveals that he “knows” Albert’s girls. Albert questions what they told him and Jade admits he knows Billie got bit, but that’s all. Ultimately, the girls let him go and he makes his way back to Umbrella, warning both of them to “stay safe.”

In 2036, Jade comes face-to-face with Billie Wesker (Adeline Rudolph), all grown up and now working for Umbrella!
