Netflix Resident Evil episode 4 recap: The Turn
Resident Evil episode 4 opens in 2022 with Angel Rubio interviewing the widow of the man who was bitten and turned during the Tijuana incident. She gives him a USB drive that was found among his things post-mortem. On it contains documents and proof that Umbrella nuked the old Raccoon City after an outbreak occurred in an effort to contain it.
At Umbrella, Albert is desperately trying to create an antiviral with time ticking until Billie turns. Yet another lab test fails and he throws a fit, kicking everyone out of the lab.
Billie thinks she’s going to die soon and as the timer ticks down, she and Jade decide to go to a party to have fun, just in case it really is the end. There, Billie notices Simon doing a crazy skateboard stunt and tries it for herself. Surprisingly, she pulls it off, but Jade is too caught up flirting with Simon to notice, triggering a big meltdown between the sisters.
Given all the stress she’s under, it’s understandable that Billie would snap, leading to a big blowout between her and Jade. Billie feels like Jade will just move on and forget about her if she dies and Jade tries to reassure her that isn’t true.
While all of this is happening, Angel Rubio arrives in New Raccoon City, having tracked down Jade upon learning her last name. He finds Billie and Jade at the party and figures out that Billie was the one who got bit. He also tells them that they don’t exist, no birth certificates, nothing. Angel tries to convince them both how dangerous Umbrella, and even their father Albert Wesker, truly is.
All of this spooks the girls and they run away from him, just as Billie starts to turn, or so she thinks. Ultimately, Billie is okay, even after the timer runs out. I guess she’s not turning after all! But what about the lab rat? Is Billie immune?
One of the Umbrella cameras catches Angel on security footage. Roth calls Evelyn to let her know and she tells him to bring Angel in. Angel is taken into custody where Evelyn grills him about how he knew to come to South Africa.
In 2036, Jade and Baxter get taken prisoner by The Brotherhood and find themselves sharing a cell. It’s a grimy, nasty place where a Chainsaw Man (shoutout to Resident Evil 4) carves up prisoners and feeds them to a horde of zeroes that they use to turn a massive turbine that powers all the energy in the place.
Considering neither of them want to die, they end up working together to escape, but not before Jade notices “Mother Zero,” a zombie capable of controlling the other zeroes, a sign of higher brain functioning.
The bulk of the 2036 timeline this episode is a lot of action and zombie fighting, which is awesome. Jade and Baxter work together to escape and fight the Brotherhood and zombies, which features a sequence of Baxter kicking ass and Jade wielding a chainsaw. She, of course, steals the Mother Zero head for future testing and at one point is forced to pick between helping Baxter or losing the head… she picks the head. RIP Baxter. I kind of started to like you.
But as is the track record with Jade, once she gets out of the Brotherhood’s prison, she comes face-to-face with Umbrella helicopters, again.
