Heading into the final episodes of Stranger Things season 4 volume 2, we knew the final episodes would bring with them the deaths of at least a few named characters. After all, the final episodes of past seasons have been notorious for featuring some of the most emotional deaths of their respective seasons.

So when a rumor began circulating around social media and Reddit regarding the Duffer brothers hinting that there would be a whopping five deaths in volume 2 the internet began to panic and question which characters might not make it out of the episodes alive.

Naturally, fans began theorizing about which characters might not survive the season with fan-favorites like Steve and Eddie emerging as two of the most worried about characters — and understandably so.

After weeks to stew over the idea of losing five named characters, volume 2 was finally released on July 1, bringing answers to the questions of who died in season 4 volume 2. So here there five named deaths after all or did the report of 5 named deaths prove to be nothing more than a rumor?

Who were the 5 deaths in Stranger Things volume 2?

Despite reports ahead of the season’s release that there would be 5 deaths in Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 connected to named characters, this report ended up being nothing more than a rumor as there were not five named character deaths in volume 2. That said there were three named characters who died in the season as well as two fake-out deaths, which does bring our total to five.

Volume 2 brings with it the death of Dr. Brenner, Jason and Eddie — with the latter two dying in the season finale. The season 4 finale also featured two fake-out deaths connected to Max and Vecna, who both seemed to die before it was later revealed they had survived their final battle –with Max falling into a coma after Eleven managed to save her and Vecna in hiding after being nearly defeated.

How many people died in Stranger Things season 4?

In total there were six named characters who died across — seven if you include Max, who technically did die but was seemingly brought back somehow by Eleven. In addition to the named characters who died in the season, we know that 22 citizens of Hawkins died when the Upside Down quake struck and an unspecified number of random side characters including unnamed military members and scientists.
