Is [SPOILER] really Diego’s son in The Umbrella Academy season 3?

As if the Hargreeves don’t have enough problems when they find that Sparrows in their home upon returning to their timeline, Diego Hargreeves (David Castañeda) gets another huge wrench thrown in the works early in The Umbrella Academy season 3.

Spoilers ahead for The Umbrella Academy season 3

Diego’s romantic partner Lila Pitts (Ritu Arya) returns shortly in the new season toting a young teenager named Stanley (Javon “Wanna” Walton) with her. She claims that Stan is Diego’s son and she’s been taking care of him for 12 years, now it’s Diego’s turn to play dad.

But as we all know, Lila can be quite duplicitous and even Diego is adamant that Stan is only his “alleged” son. So, is it true? Is Stan Diego’s biological offspring?

Is Stan really Diego’s son in The Umbrella Academy season 3?

No. Fans probably discerned rather quickly that something was amiss regarding Stan and his new presence in Diego’s life. We find out that while Lila was in East Berlin, she joined a band and then “borrowed” Stan from one of her bandmates. He isn’t related to Diego or Lila.

However, Lila is actually pregnant with Diego’s child (don’t ask me to figure out the timeline of that). While away, Lila realizes she loves Diego and misses him. She uses Stan as a test of sorts to see what kind of father Diego will be before asking him to create a family with her.

Stan is in on it from the start and opts to play along since his real mom frequently abandons him. Even though Diego and Lila aren’t Stan’s real parents, they do grow quite fond of him throughout the season as they spend time together and try to stop the world from ending.
