First Kill episode 8 recap: First Betrayal

Cal arrives at the bar first thing in First Kill episode 8. Juliette promises to handle things and get Theo cleaned up as Cal and Apollo return home. On her way out, she finds Elinor’s lipstick in the parking lot.

But then things take a decidedly weird turn. When Cal and Apollo get home, Theo is sitting at the dinner table, alive and well, although he’s acting… off. And things get even stranger as Theo starts feeling sick during dinner. He goes to his bedroom and looks in the mirror, there are fangs growing! Theo is a vampire!

Juliette confronts Elinor when she gets home and they get into a very nasty fight. Juliette is sick of how cruel Elinor is and the fact she doesn’t care who she hurts. Juliette notices Elinor dropping her storage key in her dresser drawer.

That night, Juliette finally reaches her breaking point and steals the key, delivering it to Oliver, turning to him and Carmen for comfort. With the key, Oliver turns it into the cops and Elinor is arrested after they find all the driver’s licenses hidden correlating to countless missing persons cases.

Once the rest of the Burns family realizes what has happened to Theo, they take him into the basement and restrain him with silver. Jack and Apollo are ready to kill him as they don’t believe Theo is “Theo” anymore. But Talia refuses to let that happen. She ultimately tricks Jack into leaving her alone with Theo, agreeing to stake Theo herself. In reality, Talia takes Theo and sneaks him out of the basement, right under Jack’s nose.

Imprisoned, Elinor avoids all of the cops questions and then Oliver arrives to talk to her. We find out that Elinor used to manipulate Oliver into killing people when they were kids, people like their kind camp counselor and their therapist. She made everyone believe Oliver was a vicious, sadistic killer, that’s why Sebastian was so concerned when he thought Juliette killed Ashley. Oliver has blamed Elinor ever since, for his exile. He thinks she’s a sociopath.

Elinor is still smug as she doesn’t think her parents would leave her there. Oliver laughs. She should have paid more attention. They cut him out like he was nothing and they will do the same thing to Elinor. It’s a matriarchy. Nothing matters more than protecting the family’s reputation of the Keeper of the Malkia. It looks like Elinor will have to find her own way out.

And considering Sebastian and Margot start having sex while their daughter is in jail, Oliver is probably right. But then they get a letter from the legacy council saying they are challenging the fitness of Davina Atwood as the Keeper of the Malkia. Her appearance is required at a hearing. Er, that’s going to be a little difficult since she’s dead.

Juliette realizes what’s happening to Theo because, well, she accidentally turned him into a vampire and now they are linked. She rushes to the Burns house where Theo has escaped into the yard and started acting erratic. Juliette notes that it is impossible for new vampires to focus or function until it feeds from the one who made it.

When Juliette was cleaning up the bathroom, she tried to feed Theo to save him after hearing him plead for help, inadvertently turning him in the process. Cal is horrified by what Juliette has done, turning Theo into a monster. They have a horrible fight and Cal officially tells Juliette to get away from her, promising to spend the rest of her life researching how to kill legacy vampires, and then murder Juliette. Ugh, my heart.

Talia takes Theo to the only person she can think of who can help, Oliver. Oliver is happy to welcome Theo into his home alongside Carmen and takes him into his backyard, which is full of monsters. It looks like Oliver is the one who dropped that summoner in the graveyard earlier. But what is his master plan? He tells Theo that he, Oliver and Carmen are going to “run this bitch.” Okay, season 2 now please!
