First Kill episode 5 recap: First Love

First Kill episode 5 picks up with Cal and Juliette on the run. Ultimately, they end up at the school where they use the locker room to clean themselves up and then head to the stage where the sets for the school’s performance of Romeo and Juliet are set up. The pair sit on the stage bed and discuss things from their past, further cementing their bond.

They fall asleep in the bed and the next morning, Juliette and Cal call their parents to try and get permission to have a normal day together. Margot and Talia are pissed as their respective daughters for hanging out with their sworn enemy.

When Ben arrives, things get heated between him and Juliette as he tries to make her understand how complicated a relationship with Cal will be. Juliette points out that Ben isn’t really one to talk, considering he’s fooling around with Noah, a straight boy with a girlfriend.

At the Fairmounts, Elinor prepares to meet one of the eligible bachelors of the Davenport family. Sebastian tells Elinor that she doesn’t need to do this. Elinor points out that she has to, it was part of the deal with Davina. Still, Sebastian reminds Elinor that if she changes her mind at any time, she can get out of this arranged marriage.

Cal and Juliette face-off against a zombie at school that starts roaming the hallways. Ben and Noah meet up in the locker room for one of their secret hook-ups and Ben tries to warn him about the creature after Juliette tips him off. Noah is more concerned with getting caught with Ben than he is of the zombie, which makes Ben realize that Juliette was right. Noah isn’t worth it.

But Noah’s fear for his reputation results in his death as the zombie attacks him and viciously murders him in the hallway. Cal and Juliette discover his body. The duo ends up facing off against the zombie, who is revealed to be none other than… Ashley! Cal decapitates her with an ax, officially making her first kill.

Elinor ultimately chooses not to marry a Davenport son once the Davenports try to push Elinor to have a bunch of babies until she produces daughters (since it is a matriarchy). Davina tries to push it, but Elinor is adamant that she won’t “pimp out her uterus.”

Retreating to her father upstairs, Davina follows Elinor to yell at her some more. Davina pushes her luck a step too far and Sebastian snaps and devours her. Bye-bye grandma.

Surprisingly, or perhaps not that surprisingly given the bad blood between them, Margot isn’t all that upset with Sebastian for killing Davina. She assures her daughter and husband that they’ll take care of things.

In the scuffle, Cal starts bleeding, triggering Juliette’s urge to feed. She has to fight to control herself. It gets worse outside, away from the school, when they go to drop off Ashley’s body (although she eventually just poofs into ashes).

Before Juliette can do something regrettable, they’re interrupted by Oliver and Carmen. We find out that Oliver killed Ashley because he wanted to help Juliette make her first kill (plus, Carmen needed a human liver?). He and Carmen turned Ashley into a zombie because they needed one for unknown purposes. They’re kind of pissed that Juliette and Cal killed their zombie.

But then Oliver makes Juliette a truly tantalizing offer. What if he and Carmen can turn her into a real girl? In exchange, all Juliette has to do is help Oliver get revenge on Elinor for things she did to him when they were younger. More on that later.
