First Kill episode 4 recap: First Date

Given how the previous episode ended, it’s no surprise that First Kill episode 4 gets off to an intense start with the hunters attacking the vampires and Juliette and Cal in a panic. Cook catches up to Cal and attacks her. Unfortunately for the hunters, their new weapons don’t work. All the vampires they “kill” wake up a few moments later.

Oliver and Elinor come face-to-face with Tess’s parents and kill them after a scuffle while Juliette and Cal fight Cook and, believing him to be dead, load his body into the back of car.

The massacre doesn’t go as planned, but the Burns don’t completely fail. They manage to take Oliver captive in the skirmish. Tess is left an orphan.

Even though the majority of vampires survive the attack, there is one vampire who doesn’t fully recover: Sebastian. Since Margot turned Sebastian, he isn’t a full legacy and the attack leaves him mortally wounded. Margot begs her mother to heal him and turn him into a legacy with assistance from the Emerald Malkia, but Davina refuses. She’s pissed.

Cal and Juliette take the dead body to Ben’s house, where we meet his eccentric mother Bunny Wheeler (Annunziata Gianzero). It looks like Cook isn’t dead after all since his body is no longer in the trunk. However, then Cook pops out from the bushes and ambushes Juliette. She attacks him and officially makes her first kill while a horrified Ben and Cal watch her drain him.

Margot tries to heal Sebastian with her blood, but it won’t be enough to save his life unless Davina does something. Elinor steps up and offers her grandmother an appealing bargain. She’ll marry one of the Davenport clan’s bachelors, fix what her mother broke by refusing to marry Henry Davenport all those years ago, if Davina saves Sebastian. If there’s anything Davina loves it’s power and she agrees to the deal, turning Sebastian into the legacy with the help of the Emerald Malkia.

While Oliver is in the Burns basement, Apollo and Theo find a weird ribbon embedded in his skin. Apparently Oliver is hooking up with a witch named Carmen (Walnette Santiago) and he’s bound to the Daedra Coven.

Ben is thoroughly shaken after seeing Juliette feed. She has to assure him that she’s still the same person, she just happens to be a vampire. It might take Ben a while to adjust, but he’s still Juliette’s best friend and he assists Cal and Juliette with burying Cook’s body in the woods. They’re interrupted by Noah and his girlfriend, Phillipa (Gail Soltys). They cover by saying they were out in the woods to remember Ashley. Noah and Phillipa decide to throw a whole bonfire out there and invite other kids from school.

Of course, while all this is happening, Talia is concerned that Cal is being held hostage by the Fairmounts. She negotiates a deal with Margot to exchange Oliver for Cal. Even though Margot and Oliver are estranged, she isn’t oblivious to his pain so when Talia shoves a screwdriver into his neck, she’s upset enough to agree to an exchange.

Cal and Juliette steal a moment alone during the bonfire to discuss their feelings, both of them admitting to liking each other even if Cal is confused about whether what she’s feeling is real, or the result of Juliette’s bite. It doesn’t stop them from having another steamy make-out session against a tree.

Sebastian tracks Juliette to the bonfire and picks up her and Cal to return them home (well, to the hostage exchange). But things get weird as hell on the drive over as Oliver’s witch girlfriend arrives in a storm cloud and stops them in the middle of the road, plus Sebastian starts acting super weird. Cal and Juliette bail and start running.

At the parking garage, Talia brings Oliver and Margot shows Talia a photo of Cal and Juliette in the backseat of Sebastian’s car. Then Oliver catches a ribbon similar to the one Apollo and Theo pulled out of his arm and jumps off the side of the roof, assuming Carmen catches him.

Sebastian catches up to Cal and Juliette, but they decide to keep running.
