Does Steve die in Stranger Things season 4? (Spoilers)

The final episodes of Stranger Things season 4 have finally arrived and let’s be real if you’re reading this piece right now you’re probably watching the episodes as we speak and are growing concerned about the fate of Steve.

Warning: This is where things are about to get spoiler-y. If you want to avoid spoilers of any kind, this is where you might want to leave us. 

I get it! Over the years, Steve has evolved into one of the show’s most beloved characters. He’s truly amazing in so many ways and brings so much to the show, so it’s impossible to picture the series without him.

So I’m not going to beat around the bush and fill this page with fluff just to boost a word count. Let’s get into those spoilers now to answer that burning question on your mind!

Does Steve die in Stranger Things season 4?

It’s time to breathe a sigh of relief because our beloved Steve Harrington does not die in Stranger Things season 4 and is very much still alive as the season comes to a close. That’s not to say Steve didn’t once again find himself in some dangerous situations this year.

In the sixth episode of Stranger Things season 4, Steve, Nancy, Eddie and Robin make their way to Lover’s Lake to try to find a gate in testing Dustin’s theory that every time Vecna kills someone a gate is open. Knowing that Patrick was killed in the lake, the gang takes a small boat out into the water to explore.

As the best swimmer in the group, having been a standout on the swim team in high school, Steve volunteers to dive into the waters to search for a portal. When he swims down to the bottom of the lake, he discovered the water gate and is pulled through the gate by a tentacle.

Upon arriving in the Upside Down, Steve begins getting attacked by some bat-like creatures and the episode ends with him in a grave situation with the creatures on the brink of killing him.

Fortunately, when episode 7 begins, Robin, Eddie and Nancy arrive in the Upside Down and come to his rescue in the nick of time. Using a boat oar, they’re able to stop the creatures from killing Steve and escape together into the woods of the Upside Down.

Steve finds himself in a pinch yet again in the season 9 finale when Vecna uses the hive mind vines to trap him, Nancy and Robin — nearly strangling them, before Eleven breaks his hold. This allows the trio to get the upper hand needed to defeat Vecna, at least for now.

There was a fear from fans that Steve might die in the final two episodes. Fortunately, he once again lived to fight another day as we could not have imagined season 5 without Joe Keery and our favorite babysitter!
