Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend reveals entire cast, including 5 new Iron Chefs

This June, the epic Iron Chef competition continues on Netflix with Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend. Returning Challenger Chefs will face-off against new Iron Chefs to compete for the title of the first-ever Iron Legend.

Season 1 will consist of eight, 45-minute episodes based on the format used by Fuji Television Network. Alton Brown and Kristen Kish will host with Mark Dacascos serving as The Chairman.

World-class cuisine meets high-octane sports in what is considered the toughest culinary competition a chef will ever experience, the contenders will have to concoct extravagant and creative dishes that will push them to the limits of their endurance and creativity within the reimagined Kitchen Stadium.

Creator, executive producer and host of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods franchise, Andrew Zimmern will serve as the series judge alongside former Editor-in-Chief of Food & Wine magazine and Condé Nast’s Epicurious, Nilou Motamed. Motamed has also frequently appeared on Top Chef as a judge.

Iron Legend will also feature several guest judges, such as Francis Lam, Nancy Silverton, Justin Willman, Danny Trejo, Lorena Garcia, Loni Love, Wolfgang Puck and Masaharu Morimoto.

The series launches on June 15, 2022.

The Challenger Chefs include Mason Hereford, Curtis Duffy, Claudette Zepeda, Esther Choi, Gregory Gourdet, Mei Lin and Yia Vang, while the new Iron Chefs are Curtis Stone, Dominique Crenn, Marcus Samuelsson, Ming Tsai and Gabriela Cámara.

The Challenger Chefs are newcomers who will face-off against the trailblazing Iron Chefs, here’s a brief rundown of each one:

  • Mason Hereford: New Orleans-based chef with two restaurants. He opened Turkey and the Wolf in the Irish Channel in 2016, the sandwich shop is ranked as one of the country’s best. Mason opened his second restaurant, Molly’s Rise and Shine, in 2019.
  • Curtis Duffy: The Executive Chef and owner of Ever, his latest two-Michelin star restaurant in Chicago. Chef Curtis has built several world-renowned restaurants.
  • Claudette Zepeda: a San Diego-based chef known for her fearless culinary style and bold approach to regional Mexican cuisine. She has competed on two seasons of Top Chef.
  • Esther Choi: The Chef and owner of Mokbar and Ms. Yoo in New York City.
  • Gregory Gourdet: An American chef, writer, restaurateur, and former finalist on the twelfth and seventeenth seasons of Bravo’s American reality television series, Top Chef.
  • Mei Lin: A chef and television personality, best known as the winner of the twelfth season of the Bravo television network’s reality television series, Top Chef.
  • Yia Vang: He worked at many top restaurants in the Twin Cities before starting Union Hmong Kitchen.

Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend: Who are the new Iron Chefs?

These cutting-edge Iron Chefs are the tops of the culinary industry and will face-off against the brave Challenger Chefs:

  • Curtis Stone: A Los Angeles-based Michelin-starred chef, restaurateur, author and culinary entrepreneur. Outside his restaurants, Curtis is widely known for his appearances on television programs such as Take Home Chef, Top Chef Masters, Field Trip with Curtis Stone on PBS, as well as making frequent appearances on Master Chef Australia.
  • Dominique Crenn: Chef/owner of Atelier Crenn in San Francisco. In November 2018, Crenn became the first female chef in the US to receive three Michelin Stars. She also owns Petit Crenn and Bar Crenn. In 2021, she was honored with the World’s 50 Best Icon Award for her constant presence in the international culinary community.
  • Marcus Samuelsson: Acclaimed chef behind restaurants worldwide including Red Rooster Harlem, MARCUS Montreal, Marcus B&P in Newark, Red Rooster Overtown, Streetbird at Yankee Stadium and Marcus at Baha Mar Fish + Chop House in the Bahamas. Samuelsson was the youngest person to ever receive a three-star review from The New York Times and has won multiple James Beard Foundation Awards. He is a longstanding judge on the hit Food Network show Chopped, head judge of Top Chef: Family Style.
  • Ming Tsai: A James Beard & Emmy Award-Winning chef. Most recently, he founded MingsBings. In 1998, Ming opened Blue Ginger in Wellesley, MA. The James Beard Foundation crowned Ming “2002 Best Chef Northeast,” Esquire named him Chef of the Year, and the Zagat Restaurant Guide consistently rated Blue Ginger within the “Top 5 of Most Popular Restaurants”.
  • Gabriela Cámara: Restaurateur, chef and cookbook author behind restaurants Contramar, Entremar, Itacate del Mar and Caracol de Mar in Mexico City, as well as Cala in San Francisco (not currently open).

Netflix will also be releasing Iron Chef Mexico and Iron Chef Brazil this year.
