Netflix Life previously reported that Netflix had fired Oscar-nominated actor Frank Langella from Mike Flanagan’s upcoming series The Fall of the House of Usher at the beginning of April after allegations of misconduct surfaced on set.

An investigation found that Langella had been involved in unacceptable conduct. Deadline now reports that his role as Roderick Usher has been recast with The Resident star Bruce Greenwood stepping in to take over. Langella was allegedly inappropriate with an unnamed female co-star on set, in addition to multiple instances of misconduct and at least one reported incident of sexual harassment.

The eight-episode series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe is already halfway through production. According to reports, Netflix intends to reshoot all of the scenes that were already filmed by Langella now with Greenwood as the patriarch of the Usher family.

Bruce Greenwood takes over for Frank Langella in The Fall of the House of Usher recasting

As far as we know, production has mostly continued according to plan with filming continuing and focusing on scenes that did not involve Roderick, so it doesn’t seem like this recasting has caused any significant production delays.

Greenwood seems like a great fit for the project as he previously worked with Flanagan on the acclaimed horror anthology series The Haunting of Hill House. He also portrayed John F. Kennedy in the 2000 movie Thirteen Days.

Besides Greenwood, The Fall of the House of Usher also stars Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly and Mark Hamill. The story is described as “an epic tale of greed, horror and tragedy. Poe’s short story ‘The Fall of the House of Usher,’ which serves as the basis for the show, features themes of madness, family, isolation and identity.”

What do you think of Greenwood taking over for Langella? Are you a fan of his work? Are you looking forward to Flanagan’s latest series?
