If you’ve been watching The John Wayne Gacy Tapes, Joe Berlinger’s follow-up to his previous true crime series Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, then you know most of John Wayne Gacy’s victims were found buried in the crawlspace beneath his house and various other places around his property.

The three-episode documentary series goes into more detail regarding how the victims were found and their exact placement throughout the area, but many people are curious about what happened to Gacy’s house. Is it still standing?

John Wayne Gacy’s house then and now

According to Realtor.com, Gacy’s ranch home was razed to the ground in 1979. It makes sense, considering no one would probably want to live in a house where so many horrific things happened. In its place, a three-bedroom, two-bathroom brick home was built a little less than a decade later, in 1986.

Throughout the decades, that plot of land has seen several changes. Per the outlet, the 2,500-square-foot home was sold to several different owners over the past several years, most recently selling yet against in March 2021 for $395,000. It’s actually a nice house now, with vaulted ceilings, a two-sided fireplace and a skylight.

You might think the price is cheap. It is. But people can’t help but side-eye that plot of land for what happened there, especially in a case like this one where we know most of Gacy’s victims were actually buried on that land. It might be different if Gacy had simply lived there and committed his crimes/hid the bodies elsewhere.

“You’ve got bad juju there associated with that specific geographic location,” says real estate appraiser Orell Anderson, per Realtor.com.
