Get ready to laugh, like a lot, with the new Netflix Original series God’s Favorite Idiot from Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone! The upcoming eight-episode season is premiering this June. McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone, is credited as the creator, but the couple is executive producing together via their production company On The Day. Michael McDonald will direct each episode and is also executive producing.

If you’ve been a Melissa McCarthy fan since her early days of starring as the perky chef Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls, you’ll be delighted to find out that she’s actually reunited with one of her old co-stars! Yanic Truesdale, who played Michel Gerard on the series, is included on the cast list for God’s Favorite Idiot. It’s a Gilmore Girls reunion!

God’s Favorite Idiot synopsis

Like the title of the show and some of the character names suggest, God’s Favorite Idiot has a biblical slant. Clark Thompson is a mid-level tech support employee who finds himself roped into God’s big plan. He must work with his co-workers and angelic allies to outwit Satan (played by Leslie Bibb). It sounds a little bit like The Good Place in some ways.

"Clark Thompson (Ben Falcone) is a mid-level tech support employee, who takes saunas with his dad, Gene (Kevin Dunn), pines after his co-worker Amily (Melissa McCarthy), and loves his cats. When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn’t an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him.Clark can’t save mankind by himself, he must gather his flock of mismatched co-workers, his longtime crush Amily and angelic allies to outwit Satan herself (Leslie Bibb). Together, they’re just a bunch of average humans coming together for the greater good because, after all, you can’t save the world alone."
