Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009)

Based on the beloved 1978 children’s book of the same name by Judi and Ron Barrett, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is an excellent computer-animated sci-fi comedy film from Sony Pictures Animation. The movie was written and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, marketing their directorial debuts. It also has a great cast full of hilarious performers like Anna Kendrick, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, Bruce Campbell, Anna Faris, Neil Patrick Harris and more.

The move follows inventor Flint Lockwood (Samberg) who develops a machine that successfully converts water into food. But when the machine starts to act of its own accord and create giant food storms, Flint must stop it and save the world.

If you like the movie, the sequel, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is also streaming. There is also an additional animated spinoff series with the same name, but Netflix only has the first season available.

Over the Moon (2020)

This musical fantasy film is a really sweet and endearing movie starring the voices of Sandra Oh, Margaret Cho, Cathy Ang, Phillipa Soo, Ken Jeong, Ruthie Ann Miles and John Cho. It was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award when it came out in 2020.

The Netflix Original film received critical acclaim and has quickly become a favorite among many. The story revolves around adventurous young Fei Fei (Ang), who builds a rocket ship and flies to the moon in the hopes of meeting the goddess Chang’e. Over the Moon is pretty far off from being labeled as one of the Easter movies on Netflix, but it’s still a heartfelt family movie that would be a nice way to spend time together this weekend.
