Nimona lives! Netflix has revived the formerly canceled Blue Sky Studios movie based on the beloved fantasy graphic novel by ND Stevenson. Nimona is a computer-animated fantasy adventure film that will now come out on Netflix after Disney shut down the former animation studio.

Nimona cast

We only know three of the main cast members for the movie right now, but I’m sure Netflix will announce additional voice actors within the coming months.

• Chloë Grace Moretz will voice Nimona, the shapeshifter who becomes Ballister Blackheart’s sidekick
• Riz Ahmed voices Balister Blackheart, a former Institution knight
• Eugene Lee Yang is Ambrosius Goldenloin, the Institution’s champion knight

Nimona synopsis

Here is the official synopsis via Netflix:

"A knight is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and the only person who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona, a shape-shifting teen who might also be a monster he’s sworn to kill. Set in a techno-medieval world unlike anything animation has tackled before, this is a story about the labels we assign to people and the shapeshifter who refuses to be defined by anyone."

Nimona release date predictions

It’s hard to guess the release date for animated movies. We know the film is coming out in 2023. When it was still at Blue Sky Studios, sources claimed the film had been about 75% completed. Now that Netflix and Annapurna Pictures have teamed up to finish the movie, it’s unclear if they need to go back and fix/redo things or if they’ll move forward with what is already done. DNEG Animation will animate the film. I’m assuming it won’t be released until Q2 2023 at the earliest.

Is there a Nimona trailer?

There is no trailer for Nimona yet since news of Netflix reviving the movie was recently released. All we have so far is the first-look image. Since the film will not be released until 2023, we probably won’t get an official trailer until next year. However, I would be surprised if Netflix didn’t release any teasers or additional images before 2022 is over.
