Sonic the Hedgehog has stood as a video game icon since his reign of dominance on the Sega Genesis, and despite a nightmare-indicating early trailer, the revamped character-designed legend defied all expectations in his first jump to the big screen in 2020. The film was considered a box office success as well as being a big hit with fans of all ages, and that usually warrants a sequel.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will see the Blue Blur, voiced once again brilliantly by Ben Schwarz, back in action. This time, though, the fast-paced hero will be accompanied by his notorious sidekick, Tails. They’ll absolutely have their work cut out for them as they will be going up against Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles, another infamous fan favorite from the video games who is voiced by Idris Elba.

Also starring in the fantastic follow-up is a stellar lineup of players, including James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Adam Pally, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Lee Majdoub. In addition, Jeff Fowler, who directed the original, is back again to helm the 122-minute movie on a $110 budget.

Is Sonic the Hedgehog 2 available on Netflix?

Before Netflix subscribers get their chili dogs and rings in gear for the Blue Blur’s second cinematic endeavor, they should get ready for some lousy news. It’s a big “Game Over” on subscribers getting to see the sequel because Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is not an option on the streamer, and there are no immediate plans in play for that to change.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 became available in theaters in the United Kingdom on April 1, 2022, and in the United States on April 8, 2022. Forty-five days after its US release, the video game-based sequel will be making its way to Paramount+.
