Good news for fans of The Witcher, it looks like filming on The Witcher season 3 is set to start any day, according to Redanian Intelligence. It’s fitting that filming would start soon since it’s almost exactly one year to the day that the second season wrapped production.

Per the source, the third season on this epic dark fantasy show will film in Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. It sounds like filming will begin in Slovenia with reports claiming stars Henry Cavill and Freya Allen—who play Geralt and Ciri, respectively, have arrived in town.

4/4/22 UPDATE: The Witcher Twitter account shares that filmed has started, complete with a new photo!

3/31/22 UPDATE: According to new reports, filming on The Witcher season 3 has officially started.

It initially appeared that the show would start filming in Slovenia, but according to a new article from Rednanian Intelligence, that news has changed somewhat. The third season has started production in Italy, but it’s right on the Slovenian border in Laghi di Fusine. Contrary to a previous report, it looks like Kranjska Gora is just a pit stop for the crew and horses rather than an actual filming location.

From there, filming will occur at Predjama Castle and then at Nanos, a limestone plateau in southwestern Slovenia. Steve Gaub, a producer, was scouting locations and shared a photo from Nanos on his Instagram.

Henry Cavill reunites with Roach on his Instagram ahead of The Witcher season 3

As you can see by the above Instagram post, Cavill has reunited with Hector, the stunning black horse that portrays Roach on the show. The actor says that the horse “showed off some of his new rearing skills,” we can’t wait to see them in action!

The Witcher season 3 filming should start soon

If you had to Redanian Intelligence, you can see photos shared of The Witcher production trucks and trailers centered around Kranjska Gora in Slovenia. Sources say that filming will later move to Postojna. Additionally, it looks like the majestic renaissance castle Predjama in Postojna will be closed on April 5, which would coincide with the show as the castle seems like an idyllic location for the series. This tidbit comes from Fellowship of Fans.

In Croatia, The Witcher is rumored to be filming on Krk Island and around the town of Pula, it’s not yet clear where production will film in Italy just yet.

The Witcher season 3 release date

Since it looks like production is about to get underway on the show’s third season, we should start getting a better idea of when the third season will release in the coming months. Remember, we also have The Witcher: Blood Origin to look forward to sometime this year!

I don’t think The Witcher season 3 will be released on Netflix in 2022, unfortunately, but hopefully, we’ll get to see the next season earlier than December 2023.
