The days of sharing your Netflix account with your friends and extended family might be coming to an end. According to an exclusive from Variety, the streaming service is testing a Netflix password sharing fee that will charge users for lending their passwords to other people.

This fee will be in addition to the subscriber fee you already pay to use the service. And that’s not the only change Netflix might be making. Netflix is also testing whether or not it is worth letting subscribers transfer user profiles to new accounts so that people who are using your password are more likely to pay for their own plan.

Members can let people who share their account transfer profile information to an extra member sub-account or a new account, preserving their recommendations, list, and viewing history.

For now, the ongoing testing will only affect members in Chile, Peru and Costa Rica. It’s not yet clear if Netflix will start testing these features in additional countries soon before deciding whether to implement this plan on a grand scale.

Keep in mind that this change shouldn’t impact people sharing an account in a single household. If you, your spouse and your kids use one account with separate profiles, you should not be affected. Netflix is trying to prevent people from sharing accounts between households.

How much is the Netflix password sharing fee?

So far, the Netflix password sharing fee is only going into effect in Chile, Peru and Costa Rica. To add a sub-member to your account, it will cost 2380 CLP in Chile, $2.99 USD in Costa Rica and 7.9 PEN in Peru.

It’s important to remember that even if you notice these changes on your account, the password-sharing fee might not become a permanent fixture on your plan.

“We’ll be working to understand the utility of these two features for members in these three countries before making changes anywhere else in the world,” says Chengyi Long, director of product innovation at Netflix.
