What is Is It Cake? about?

Netflix will never tire of bringing out new cooking and baking competition shows, and who can blame them? They are relatively cheap to produce, and people love watching other people make food. And their newest show combines a baking competition show with the 2020 “is it cake?” meme and trend everyone was talking about.

If you don’t remember the meme, it was in the early months of the pandemic and featured videos and pictures of everyday objects that looked pretty normal. That is until someone took a knife to them and you realize it’s not actually a stapler, it’s cake! It seems a little silly now, but it was all over social media at the time. And come on, who doesn’t like cake?!

Is It Cake? will be hosted by SNL cast member Mikey Day and will feature mostly comedians as the judges. The show would have been more interesting if they got the bakers to fool actual pastry chefs, but Netflix didn’t ask me for my advice.

The show is set to hit Netflix on Friday, March 18, 2022, and will be eight episodes long.

What is Is It Cake? about?

The show’s premise is pretty simple. A baker must make a cake that looks like an everyday object. The items range from purses to sneakers to sewing machines to bowling balls.

Once they are done with their creations, the cakes are put next to the item they represent, and then the panel of comedians and celebrities have to guess if the item is a cake or not.

If the judges can’t guess that their cake is actually cake, the baker wins $5,000. Then the bakers have to try their hand at guessing. Can they figure out which is cake and which isn’t? If they guess right, they win another $10,000.

When it gets down to the end, the three best bakers will be chosen, and they will compete to win the grand prize of $50,000.
