Netflix shows canceled after one season

Sometimes, Netflix original series are here for a good time, not a long time. One day, you’re binge-watching the latest new release Netflix shows, and the next, you find out you will never watch more episodes of that series again because the Netflix show was canceled.

Whether it’s an obvious lack of enthusiasm or viewership, some shows just premiere dead on arrival. Unless extenuating circumstances become their saving grace, these shows have little chance of survival. Love them or leave them, you can’t save them.

But Netflix can tend to cancel favorite shows too soon. Some of the best originals that find a small but mighty following can get canceled after one season, leading to understandable frustration among fans as shows like The Society, 1899, Uncoupled, and so many more fell victim to a one-and-done fate.

We’ll never know how the story ends for Chambers, The Midnight Club, Everything Sucks! and more, but that doesn’t mean these shows aren’t still worth watching. The binge-watches might be short for these criminally short-lived shows, but they remain a good time on Netflix.

Between well-loved shows we never got a second chance with and a handful of other quick and questionable cancellations, these are the 37 best Netflix shows that were canceled after airing only one season, beginning below with Lockwood and Co..

Lockwood and Co. premiered on Netflix in January 2023, and while it wasn’t a huge hit at first, it looked like there was enough support to possible score a renewal. The series is based on the book series of the same name by Jonathan Stroud.

Lockwood and Co. tells the story of Lucy Carlyle (Stokes) who joins forces with Anthony Lockwood (Chapman) and George Karim (Hadji-Heshmati) as an psychic investigations agency. The series follows their adventures into the world of ghosts.

It was revealed that Lockwood and Co. was canceled in May 2023.

A few years ago, Lockwood and Co. definitely would have been renewed for season 2, but the bar is just that much higher for Netflix these days. It’s only renewing shows that are big, big hits for the streaming service, and that’s tough for more niche, supernatural shows like Lockwood and Co., and even fantasy shows, like Shadow and Bone, in general.

There’s currently a fan campaign to save the series, but so far, it looks like this is the end of the road for Lockwood and Co.
