Serving as a sequel to the extremely successful historical drama Vikings, Vikings: Valhalla is about to premiere on Netflix this Friday. The series takes place 100 years after its predecessor, following the famous Norseman Leif Erikson as he battles for survival against English royalty. He’s joined on his journey by historical figures Freydís Eiríksdóttir and Harald Hardrada.

These eight episodes are bound to be truly epic as we get to watch the courageous Vikings fight for glory. And if you haven’t watched Vikings, which originally aired on the History Channel, that’s totally okay! Because Valhalla takes place so many years after the original, you can tune in without having seen Vikings.

Because of the popularity Vikings has seen, it wasn’t that much of a surprise when it was announced a spin-off series would be coming out. But what about the fate of the franchise? Will there be a Vikings: Valhalla season 2? Will there be another spin-off? We tell you everything we know below!

Vikings: Valhalla release date

The spin-off series hits Netflix on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022 at 12:00 a.m. PT / 3:00 a.m. ET. Fans of Vikings cannot wait to see how great the new show is!

Is Vikings: Valhalla season 2 happening?

If you’re already planning to spend your weekend binging the eight episodes of Vikings: Valhalla and need to know about a potential second season, we don’t blame you. It’s always so hard getting invested in a series and then having to wait around to find out if it’ll continue. Well, we come bearing good news because Vikings: Valhalla season 2 is in the works!

And we might not have to wait that long before Vikings: Valhalla season 2 premieres. According to What’s On Netflix, production for the next installment wrapped in Nov. 2021, meaning Netflix could debut the first two seasons in 2022 if they wanted to. We’re guessing we’ll see season 2 in late 2022 or early 2023 at the latest.

And that’s not all! Vikings: Valhalla season 3 is said to also be in the works! When the show was first announced in 2019, according to Deadline, the streamer reportedly ordered 24 episodes, meaning three full seasons. This is bold for a show that still hasn’t come out yet, but if it’s anything like Vikings, it’ll be a major hit.

Enjoy the first season of Vikings: Valhalla when it’s released on Feb. 25!
