The newest Stranger Things novel is all about Lucas Sinclair

Stranger Things may have been gone for an eternity (or at least that’s what it feels like), but we are finally starting to get some good news. We recently got a release date for season 4 and now there is a new Stranger Things novel. So far, we’ve gotten a novel about Max, Hopper, Robin, and Terry Ives, but the new book is all about Lucas!

The new book is called Stranger Things: Lucas on the Line and is by bestselling author Suyi Davies. The story is set when Lucas Sinclair and his friends start high school. Sure, he has fought monsters and evil scientists in his town, but that is nothing compared to the terrors of high school.

Despite having friends, Lucas still feels like an outsider, and being bullied certainly doesn’t help. But when he starts to connect with one of the only other Black students at school, he finally feels like he has someplace he belongs.

He starts to understand himself as more than just a part of his friend group and as a Black teen in Hawkins, Indiana. He may have experienced a lot of things, but the feeling of belonging he gets from spending time with his new friend is like nothing he ever experienced before.

Lucas Sinclair gets his own Stranger Things novel

This book sounds so good! Lucas is one of the characters we haven’t learned much about. We know his personality, how he fits into the group, and about his relationship with Max, but we haven’t seen much about his home life (besides his amazing sister, Erica) or what it’s like living in a place as one of the only Black people. It sounds like this novel will definitely show us that side of life.

The author of Lucas on the Line, Suyi Davies, was also a contributor to the New York Times bestselling book Black Boy Joy and wrote a Minecraft novel for younger readers. I don’t think there could be a more perfect author to tell Lucas’s story.

The book is already available to preorder and will be out in hardcover on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. The book release date is only a few weeks after the release of season 4 volume 2. It’s great timing. Everyone will still be excited about the new season but will also be looking for more content.
