Gilmore Girls fans believed they were onto something recently when the show’s official Twitter account became more active and series star Lauren Graham engaged with one of the account’s tweets. All in all, they’d hoped a new season of A Year in the Life was on the way.

Of course, back in 2016, the beloved WB/CW mother-daughter dramedy returned for a four-part miniseries revival on Netflix called Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. In spite of the split reaction from fans, the tides have shifted and fans are ready to see what comes next after those four final words.

Although A Year in the Life was intended to be a one-off epilogue to the seven-season series, the cast and creator have expressed their openness in returning to Stars Hollow for another chapter of the Gilmore saga. That is, if the timing and story are right.

The latest glimmer of hope regarding the potential comeback of the strongest mother-daughter duo in television history came via an innocent tweet from Lauren Graham, which sparked excitement from fans akin to a Taylor Swift Easter egg.

Lauren Graham excites Gilmore Girls fans

On Feb. 21, the official Gilmore Girls Twitter account shared a gif of Luke and Lorelai with the caption, “how we’re feeling today.” The following day, Graham retweeted the gif and added a glasses-clad smiling emoji. Totally innocent, right?

Well, diehard Gilmorians were hoping that Graham’s tweet hinted that an announcement for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life season 2 was imminent. After all, Graham reposting the show’s account felt like a loaded interaction that could lead to more.

Is Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life coming back?

Unfortunately, fans looked a little too far into Graham’s tweet. There was nothing more to the post on the show’s official account and the subsequent emoji than the fact that the Golden Globe-nominated leading lady simply liked the gif of Luke and Lorelai

In a follow-up tweet hours later, Lauren Graham debunked the notion that A Year in the Life announcement was on the way.

She wrote, “Sweet Peoples: sorry for any confusion. I retweeted that clip because I thought it was fun but I have nothing Gilmore Girls-related to announce except that I continue to be bad at the internet and I continue to love you all.”

As of right now, A Year in the Life season 2 isn’t happening in the near future. That doesn’t mean it will never happen, but it’s just extra unlikely given that Graham’s currently working on the Disney+ show The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has one more season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on the horizon for Amazon.

After what feels like an eternity since our last update on Gilmore Girls, we finally have a fresh perspective on where their future lies… even if it’s not quite what fans were hoping for. Stay tuned for more news and updates from Netflix Life!
