Netflix’s The Power of the Dog leads with the most Oscar nominations

The Oscar nominations for 2022 have been announced, and Netflix has a lot to celebrate this year. While the streaming service landed its own impressive crop of nods, the 2021 original film The Power of the Dog came out on top with the most nominations.

Based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Savage, The Power of the Dog stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemmons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee in the critically acclaimed Western psychological drama.

Following the film’s premiere in November 2021, critics raved about Jane Campion’s latest directorial effort, leading to a certified fresh rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Although it might not be a fan-favorite, The Power of the Dog has the Oscar nominations to back up its merits.

But just how many nominations did the year’s most-nominated film receive, and which categories will the film be competing in on March 27? Here’s every Academy Award nomination The Power of the Dog received in 2022.

The Power of the Dog Oscar nominations

As previously mentioned, the film came out on top as the movie with the most nominations, grabbing an impressive 12 total nods. Coming up just behind The Power of the Dog with an equally impressive 10 nominations is the blockbuster epic Dune.

  • Best Director — Jane Campion
  • Best Adapted Screenplay — Jane Campion
  • Best Cinematography — Ari Wegner
  • Best Film Editing — Peter Sciberras
  • Best Production Design — Grant Major and Amber Richards
  • Best Sound — Richard Flynn, Robert Mackenzie, and Tara Webb
  • Best Original Score — Jonny Greenwood

Along with all of those incredible nominations, The Power of the Dog also helped Jane Campion make history. With her second nomination for Best Director, she becomes the first woman to be recognized in the category twice.

Kirsten Dunst also picked up her first Oscar nomination for her performance in the movie, alongside her fiancé Jesse Plemons, who also landed his first Oscar nomination for his performance in the movie. We can’t wait to see the couple on the red carpet!

Considering all of the nominations the film received, it’s sure to pick up at least a few well-deserved award wins when the 94th Academy Awards air on March 27 on ABC.
