Get ready to have our sweet magnolias back on our screens very soon. We’re going back to the small town of Serenity, South Carolina on Feb. 4.

Sweet Magnolias became a popular Netflix original series ever since season 1 dropped in May 2020. Just like the first season, Sweet Magnolias season 2 will have 10 episodes. I’m sure the mix of lightheartedness and drama will continue for our favorite trio.

But before we jump into the second season, you may need a refresher. If you can’t remember how everything ended in Sweet Magnolias season 1, don’t worry we’ve got you covered!

Here’s where all the characters’ storylines ended up by the end of the first season.

How did Sweet Magnolias season 1 end?

Maddie

Season 1 episode 10 started off great for the show’s cutest couple. Cal was perfect at family dinner with the kids (I mean, is there anything that’s not perfect about this man?). He took Maddie by surprise by pronouncing his love, and though it threw her off a bit, she knew a surprise dinner was in order to let him know she was ready to take that next step with him.

But of course, drama had to come out of left field (pun intended) for the spa owner and baseball coach. Cal’s friend, who is a baseball scout, takes an interest in Tyler and wants him to join the Braves. But Maddie wants her son to go to college first. This leads to Maddie and Cal’s first big argument. We end the season not knowing where the relationship stands.

And if that wasn’t dramatic enough, Bill finally realizes what a bad dad he’s been (cue the eye roll) and decides to finally bond with his kids. With Noreen still pregnant and leaving him behind, Bill also realizes how much he misses his family. He asks Maddie to take him back, and do we get an answer? Of course not!

Dana Sue

Ex-lovers and estranged husbands was definitely the common thread this episode. Dana Sue gets a visit from her friend Micah, who is her silent partner for Sullivan’s. He needs her to buy him out so he can help with his sick brother’s treatment. With impeccable timing, Ronnie enters — Dana Sue’s estranged husband and father to Annie.

Dana Sue asks for a divorce so she can get a loan to buy Micah out. Ronnie, like Bill, has a change of heart and wants to get back together with is wife. Oh, and don’t forget about cute farmer Jeremy who has a major crush on Dana Sue.

One of the biggest questions left unanswered though: Is Dana Sue Isaac’s birth mother? The Sullivan’s staff member confronts her, but of course we’re left hanging and await that answer in season 2.

Helen

Although they all went through relationship drama in the season finale, Helen’s was the most heartbreaking. She and Ryan sit down to talk and it turns out they’re on completely different pages. He doesn’t want to have kids, but she does. The couple says goodbye to each other for the last time, and I just wanted to grab Helen and give her a big hug.

I wasn’t able to, but that’s what she has her best friends for. And Erik came to the rescue as a shoulder to cry on. Was this hinting at something more for these two?

The kids

Sweet Magnolias can’t just have all the drama go to the adults, the teens need some of it as well. Tyler and CeCe go to prom together. At the after party, we see Ty and Annie making eyes at each other while they’re dancing with their respective dates.

Kyle spends prom night with Nellie playing video games. That is until her annoying older brother Jackson comes into the house announcing the after party is taking place. Tyler and Jackson end up getting into a fight. When Kyle steps in to help his brother, Ty tells him to stay out of it.

Kyle angrily runs out of the house and takes his brother’s new car. The season ends with Kyle getting into a car accident. We see him being pulled out of the car on a stretcher. But he wasn’t the only one in the car. There’s another passenger. Who could it be?

Netflix recently released the Sweet Magnolias season 2 trailer. Even though it doesn’t give us any hints as to who the other passenger was, there’s some other takeaways and predictions we can make. Click on the next page to check them out!
