Against the Ice, a historical adventure starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Joe Cole, is making its way to Netflix this year. The film is based on the true story, Two Against the Ice, penned by real life explorer and author Ejnar Mikkelsen back in the early 1900s.
Coster-Waldau plays the man himself in the movie which he also co-wrote with Joe Derrick. Set in 1909, Against the Ice is about survival in the frigid plains of Greenland. Ejnar was on a mission to disprove the United States’ claim to the northeastern region of the island country.
Due to the assumption, at the time, that Greenland was split into two separate bodies of land, the U.S. was able to claim the northeast as their territory. However, Ejnar was eager to find proof that this wasn’t the case and bring Greenland firmly under the control of Denmark.
His mission, which he embarks on in the film with Iver Iversen, is successful but the real story lies in how the two must brave the harsh conditions to bring their findings back to their shipmates and hopefully make it out alive.
