All the Light We Cannot See, the critically acclaimed Pulitzer winning book by Anthony Doerr, is being adapted into a four part series for Netflix. Set during World War II, this period drama follows a blind teenage girl and an orphaned young man who plays a key role in the Nazi war effort.

The two are on separate tracks and on opposite sides of the war tearing apart Europe. In the book, their paths eventually cross in Nazi occupied France. This is a story about the wonder of knowledge, the hope it can bring, and the devastation intolerance and ignorance brings in its wake.

We expect All the Light We Cannot See to be a challenging watch, not just in its subject matter, but also in our understanding of its two lead characters and the choices, circumstances, and trials set before them as children and into the beginnings of their young adulthood.

So far, only three cast members have been announced but among them is a newcomer and two heavy hitters who’ve been lighting up screens for decades.

All the Light We Cannot See cast

Aria Mia Loberti has been cast in the lead role of Marie-Laure, the voice of hope during the occupation thanks to the radio broadcasts she makes along with her uncle.

Mark Ruffalo as Daniel LeBlanc, Marie-Laure’s father and the principal locksmith at the Museum of Natural History in Paris. Daniel has been tasked with carrying a secret gem that must be kept out of the hands of Nazi forces. It’s a mission he takes seriously whilst trying to protect his daughter and give her the independence she needs to thrive.

Hugh Laurie as Etienne LeBlanc, Marie-Laure’s uncle who is a World War I vet suffering from PTSD. He’s also a part of the French resistance and supports the effort through his radio broadcast. Etienne is a recluse and eccentric.
