Serving as a sequel series to the classic Karate Kid movies, Cobra Kai has turned into a major staple for Netflix. The show follows Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), still rivals all these years later who eventually open up feuding dojos. In contrast to the original films, now Daniel has it all, while Johnny is really struggling.

Johnny has a terrible relationship with his son Robby (Tanner Buchanan), while Daniel has a beautiful wife and two children. But things start to look up for Johnny when he meets Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), his high school neighbor who doesn’t have a dad or a way to stick up for himself.

Miguel and Johnny become close pretty quickly, with Johnny acting as Miguel’s Sensei. The trust between the two goes deep, and they stay by each other’s sides throughout each season. But now with Cobra Kai season 4 out on Netflix, fans are questioning whether or not Maridueña is leaving the show. The season finale is quite a shocking one, and we’re really not sure what Cobra Kai season 5 will bring.

Spoilers ahead for Cobra Kai season 4.

Miguel and Johnny’s relationship gets a little strained in season 4. As Miguel and his girlfriend Sam (Mary Mouser) get closer, Miguel forms a good relationship with Sam’s dad, Daniel.

Understandably, this makes Johnny really jealous. And the tension doesn’t stop there. One night, Miguel finds Johnny drunk at home, and he helps him out. But under the influence of alcohol, Johnny mistakenly calls Miguel by Johnny’s name. That doesn’t feel good for Miguel whatsoever.

At the All Valley tournament, Miguel has a temporary injury. Though he’s cleared to keep competing, he instead takes a car home without letting Johnny know. He’s clearly upset and needs support. But the reality is that Johnny isn’t the person he’s seeking support from.

Will Miguel be in Cobra Kai season 5?

In the final moments of Cobra Kai season 4, Miguel’s mom Carmen (Vanessa Rubio) shows Johnny a note that Miguel left after the All Valley tournament. According to the letter, Miguel is off to go find his dad, and we see him getting on a bus to Mexico City. He recalls all the trauma he’s faced in the past few months, including his injury and the rehab he had to go through. He wants to figure out where he came from, noting Johnny was afraid to do that. He needs to meet his dad to find some sense of identity, and apologizes for leaving so abruptly.

Of course, this is a major surprise and a cliffhanger for the Cobra Kai season 4 finale. So is Maridueña leaving the show? Well, we don’t have confirmation either way, but we doubt that’s likely. For one, Miguel says in his note that he’ll be back “soon.” That makes it seem like he’ll be back in season 5, even if it’s not until a few episodes in.

Cobra Kai season 5 has completed filming, but we haven’t seen Maridueña share any behind-the-scenes shots on his Instagram. Perhaps he’s trying not to spoil anything!

At the end of the day, Miguel is such an essential part of Cobra Kai, as is the actor who portrays him. It wouldn’t be the same without him! At this time, we’re predicting he won’t be leaving the show, but this is simply speculation at this point. Check in with us at Netflix Life for more updates!
