Over the course of its five seasons, The CW’s hit drama series Dynasty has been no stranger to casting shakeups. Between three Cristals and Elizabeth Gillies playing her own mother, the show has kept us on our toes. Being so, Dynasty season 5 hinted at bringing back a fan-favorite character.

When Dynasty premiered in 2017, Fallon Carrington had one sibling: An older brother named Steven, who was played by James Mackay. Unfortunately, Steven was written off halfway into season 2, and Mackay was sadly the latest cast member to leave the series.

Since Steven’s departure in season 2, he’s hardly been mentioned in the series. In fact, he might not even have been name-checked in season 3 or season 4 at all. Obviously, that’s not unnatural since he’s no longer part of the show, but his family seemed to have forgotten him.

Thankfully, things have changed in the two-part Dynasty season 5 premiere. The long-lost Carrington sibling received multiple name-checks in the season 5 opener, and the mere mention of Steven has fans wondering whether he could be making a long-awaited comeback this season.

Is James Mackay coming back to Dynasty season 5?

Right now, there’s no official word on James Mackay returning in Dynasty season 5 to reprise his role as Steven Carrington. However, on shows like Dynasty, a mention of a character is often used as foreshadowing. Could that be the case with Steven?

You never know! As the season 5 setup stands now, we seem to be on the path of Adam vs. Amanda concerning the legal matters with Alexis, and Steven’s reappearance would rock Adam’s world in a completely different way. Simply put, it doesn’t make sense story-wise at the moment.

Regardless, Alexis and Blake’s references to Steven, as well as Fallon’s, seem like an opportunity to dip back into what’s going on with him over in Paris. As far as we know, none of the Carringtons have checked up on him, but in their defense, they have been a bit busy.

There’s so much for Steven to catch up on, including the death of his biological father, the arrival of his newest long-lost half-sibling, and Fallon’s marriage to Liam. He hasn’t even seen Alexis’s new look since Nicollette Sheridan still played the character prior to his departure.

Because of the circumstances surrounding his exit, most of which have to do with Adam, there’s so much story left to tell with Steven. He would certainly shake things up upon coming back to the manor, and we, for one, would like to see it for the fans, the character, and the story.

Whether those mentions of Steven’s name were just a bit of overdue reflection from his family or a tease for an eventual comeback, they were definitely welcome.
