The Witcher season 2 has finally made its land on Netflix. Once more fans of the show have been dropped into a world full of magic, intrigue, and monsters.

As per usual with this Netflix original series, the backdrop the characters live, die, and thrive in is a character unto itself from the city of Cintra to the desolate and frozen Kaer Morhen.

Last season, the cast and crew of The Witcher globe-hopped to bring the series to life. Filming locations included Hungary, Poland, and Spain with their beautiful and lush settings painting the perfect picture of this world.

However, due to the COVID pandemic, season 2 couldn’t receive the same treatment but that doesn’t mean a successful pivot wasn’t made. Though filming took place entirely in the United Kingdom on location and stages, The Witcher universe was just as breathtaking and stunning as it was in the previous season.

Netflix released the locations of each pivotal setting used in season 2. Here’s what we know about where the season was filmed including observations on which scenes were shot in those locations!

Spoilers ahead of The Witcher season 2

Arborfield Film Studios

Previously army barracks, the studios’ backlot was used for village sets and the exterior of the witchers’ winter home, Kaer Morhen. The scenes featuring Ciri trying to make her way through the training obstacle course were filmed at this location.

Coldharbour Wood in Chichester

The first day of filming on season 2 took place in these woods. They’re the location of the elven village/camp site where we see Francesca and Filvandrel as Yennefer and Fringilla are dragged before them.

Bourne Wood in Farnham

Netflix points out it’s “a favourite with film producers which can be spotted in numerous films including Gladiator, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

MOD Deepcut Surrey

The British Army training base was used as another exterior location for Kaer Morhen. The base is the site of the Killer Trail in The Witcher season 2, the one both Geralt and Ciri traverse during her witcher training.

The caves of Hodge Close Quarry

It’s where Geralt and Vesemir speak after a Leshy attack proves fatal for a fellow witcher upon his return home. The surrounding area is likely one of the locations used for Geralt and Ciri’s run in with a gruesome creature from another sphere.

Low Force Waterfall in Teesdale

The 18-foot falls are located on the River Tees. The location is a pivotal filming spot for a scene involving Yennefer and Ciri as they make their way to Cintra.

Fountains Abbey

A Cisterian monastery that was founded in 1132 and dissolved by King Henry VIII in 1539. It’s considered to be one of the largest and best preserved monasteries in England. The abbey is the site of the execution scene involving the mages and Cahir, the Black Knight.

Filming locations for exterior work

  • The Lake District in Cumbria
  • Blea Tarn
  • Rydal Cave
  • Gordale Scar at Yorkshire Dales National Park
  • Plumpton Rocks
  • Frensham Common (including Frensham Great and Little ponds) – likely the filming location for the roads outside of Cintra.
