Is 1883 on Netflix? Where to watch the Yellowstone spin-off series online

Westerns seem to be on the rise in Hollywood as more and more movies and series told through the medium of this genre are greenlit.

Whether it’s a modern take like Concrete Cowboy or The CW’s Walker, or a traditional western like The Harder They Fall or The Power of the Dog, they’re beginning to carve out a niche space in mainstream pop culture.

If you’ve begun to fall in love with the genre or have long held a special place for western fiction in the media you consume, then you’ll want to check out the upcoming western drama,1883.

The series is a spin-off of Yellowstone, a show starring Kevin Costner which follows the Dutton family. The Duttons own the largest ranch in Montana and are in conflict with land developers, Yellowstone national park, and an American Indian reservation that borders their land.

1883 flashes back over two hundred years before the original series in a prequel that tells how the Duttons came to establish themselves in Montana. Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May, and LaMonica Garrett star in the show. Tom Hanks, Graham Greene, and Billy Bob Thornton will guest star.

Where to watch 1883 online

1883 is a Paramount+ original that’ll make its debut on the streamer, Sunday, Dec. 19.

Town & Country reports that the pilot episode will air on Paramount Network in a simulcast event starting at 9:04 p.m. ET after Yellowstone. The second episode of the series will also air on the network, however, subsequent releases will only be available on Paramount+.

This will come as a surprise for Yellowstone fans who might have been expecting its spin-off series to air on the channel and later be available to stream on Peacock. Due to streaming rights, the two shows will be on disparate streaming platforms for the time being.

There are 10 episodes in the series.
