Bridgerton season 2: Shonda Rhimes shares major update

The first season of Bridgerton premiered on Netflix on Christmas Day 2020. Since then, fans have been wondering when Bridgerton season 2 would be released on Netflix.

Unfortunately, Netflix has not confirmed the Bridgerton season 2, but we know it’s not coming on Christmas Day 2021. It’s definitely coming in 2022. Even more unfortunately, executive producer Shonda Rhimes didn’t spill the actual release date for Bridgerton season 2 in a new interview with Adweek.

But, Rhimes did share a major piece of info on where post-production is, and it’s great news for fans who want to see Bridgerton season 2 release date arrive soon.

Bridgerton season 2 release update

While speaking with Adweek’s Jason Lynch, Rhimes was talking about Regé-Jean Page not coming back for season 2 and then shared the production update.

"“Everybody was so upset about Regé not coming back as the Duke, and I said early on our goal is that every season, you have a couple that you’re obsessed with, and that you can’t believe that we’re not going to see more of their story next season, because we’re telling a complete love story every season,” Rhimes says. “And that is the beauty of what Season 2 is. We’re halfway through editing all the episodes, and they’re gorgeous.”"

The most important part of that quote is the last sentence. They are halfway through editing Bridgerton season 2. That’s the good, good, good news. It means we have a pretty good idea when Bridgerton season 2 is coming out, and it’s probably not too far away.

Typically, we have to wait about six months for a show like this from the end of production before the new season is released on Netflix around the world. Bridgerton season 2 wrapped at the end of November. If they are already through half of the season in the editing room, there’s a chance we could see Bridgerton season 2 sooner than May 2022, which would be six months out from the end of production.

For now, we’re expecting Bridgerton season 2 to be released on Netflix in March, April, or May 2022. It’s too soon to expect Bridgerton season 2 before March 2022. There’s just not enough time for them to get the season done and promoted.

Interestingly, Bridgerton’s fan event, “The Queen’s Ball: A Bridgerton Experience,” takes place in March 2022. So, it’s possible the release of season 2 will coincide with that event? We can only hope.

For now, expect to see Bridgerton season 2 between March and May 2022. We don’t think you’ll have to wait longer than the end of May for the new season. If it’s released by the end of May, Bridgerton season 2 is eligible for the 2022 Emmys.

In the Adweek interview, Rhimes also confirmed fans won’t have to wait as long for Bridgerton season 3 and season 4 as they did for Bridgerton season 2. That’s very good news, too!
