If you haven’t checked out Hypnotic on Netflix yet, now is the time to do it. Lucie Guest stars as Gina, and she shares all about it in this interview.

Hypnotic came out in time for Halloween, but you’ll be forgiven if you overlooked it. After all, October was filled with amazing content and it was easy to overlook a few movies here and there that weren’t promoted as much as the likes of You and Locke and Key.

The movie stars Kate Siegel as Jenn. She’s trying to get over her breakup and some trauma in her life, and she turns to a therapist to help. That therapist suggests hypnotherapy, which she agrees to although she’s not sure it will help. It turns out that it helps a little too well.

What if you could make someone kill without them realizing it? That’s something Hypnotic goes into.

Lucie Guest plays Gina, Jenn’s best friend. She just wants the best for Jenn, but she soon finds herself mixed up in the problem.

Lucie Guest talks Hypnotic and more

Netflix Life: What was it that drew you into Hypnotic and the character of Gina in the first place?

Lucie Guest: I read the script and loved the character Gina immediately. I liked the friendship between Gina and Jenn and I was excited to work with such a great cast, Kate Siegel, Jason O’Mara, and Dule Hill and the directing team, Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote. And…how can you not want to work with a giant tarantula named Harry…

NL: What did you enjoy about Gina as you got to know the character more?

LG: I enjoyed her sense of humor and that she really wants to be a good friend to Jenn. She is her ride or die; she wants Jenn to get out of a funk she has been in.  Gina knows that Jenn is just going through a rough patch in her life and is trying to help her turn the corner.

NL: What preparation did you do to get into this role?

LG: I did a lot of research on hypnosis. I had a lot of conversations about the tarantula, meetings with the spider wranglers, meeting all the spiders, and picking the right spider. Spiders were a bigger part of the prep than I anticipated.

NL: How much has the movie put you off the idea of hypnotherapy?

LG: Ha. Much! I like that this movie is kind of like a giant PSA to not do hypnosis. I think people should do what works for them; no judgment. But, I personally don’t feel great about someone hanging out inside my mind…no thank you, please.

NL: I see you’ve just wrapped on The Adam Project. Is there anything you can share about your role in that?

LG: Best experience. I loved working with such a dream team.

NL: Are there any other projects you have coming up that you’re able to talk about?

LG: I just finished filming a movie called Disappearance in Yellowstone, directed by Tony Dean Smith. I play a mom whose daughter goes missing in Yellowstone Park and she goes on a mission to try and find her.  I also just finished writing another short film called Been Better, Actually.

NL: If you could do any project, what would that dream project be?

LG: A giant action-comedy.
