The cast of Grey’s Anatomy has changed so much over the course of its 18 seasons on the air. Diehard fans still remember the glory days with Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsey, and other original cast members who are not in the Grey’s Anatomy season 18 cast.

In Grey’s Anatomy season 18, Ellen Pompeo returns as the titular Meredith Grey, along two addition original cast members who have also been part of the hit ABC medical drama since the first season.

But as with any long-running medical drama, Grey’s welcomes a revolving door of guest stars, recurring cast members, and other notable characters.

If you’re wondering who’s in the Grey’s Anatomy season 18 cast, whether they are a series regular or a recurring cast member, we shared who you’ll see this season. We’re also sharing details on why we’re not seeing a lot of a certain main character.

Grey’s Anatomy season 18 cast

In its landmark season, the Grey’s Anatomy season 18 cast has continued to bring back a fair amount of its familiar faces, while also saying goodbye to a few favorites such as Jesse Williams, Giacomo Gianniotti, and Greg Germann as series regulars.

Here’s the Grey’s Anatomy season 18 cast:

  • Ellen Pompeo as Dr. Meredith Grey
  • Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey
  • James Pickens Jr. as Dr. Richard Webber
  • Kevin McKidd as Dr. Owen Hunt
  • Caterina Scorsone as Dr. Amelia Shepherd
  • Camilla Luddington as Dr. Jo Wilson
  • Kelly McCreary as Dr. Maggie Pierce
  • Kim Raver as Dr. Teddy Altman
  • Jake Borelli as Dr. Levi Schmitt
  • Chris Carmack as Dr. Atticus “Link” Lincoln
  • Richard Flood as Dr. Cormac Hayes
  • Anthony Hill as Dr. Winston Ndugu
  • Scott Speedman as Dr. Nick Marsh

While that’s the main cast for season 18, the latest season also includes an extensive cast of recurring cast members, including Germann making a return as Dr. Tom Koracick and the following selected usual suspects:

  • Abigail Spencer as Dr. Megan Hunt
  • Lynn Chen as Dr. Michelle Lin
  • Alex Landi as Dr. Nico Kim
  • Peter Gallagher as Dr. David Hamilton
  • E.R. Fightmaster as Dr. Kai Bartley
  • Jason George as Dr. Ben Warren
  • Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Montgomery

Grey’s Anatomy season 18 welcomes Kate Walsh back as Addison Montgomery for the first time since season 8, which is an incredible reunion not only for long-time super-fans but also for Meredith and Addison as characters.

Why isn’t Kelly McCreary in Grey’s Anatomy season 18?

Eagle-eyed fans might have noticed that Kelly McCreary has been noticeably absent from many season 18 episodes as Dr. Maggie Pierce. In August 2021, McCreary announced her pregnancy on Instagram, which seems to be playing a part in her absence.

McCreary appeared in the season 18 premiere as she and Winston enjoyed their honeymoon phase, but she hasn’t appeared since. Maggie’s absence was explained in the Nov. 11 episode “Bottle Up and Explode!” as Winston mentioned she’s caring for her father in Boston.

It’s worth noting that McCreary and ABC have made no announcements about Maggie leaving the series for good, so it remains to be seen when Maggie will turn back up at Grey-Sloan Memorial. We’ll have to wait and see if McCreary’s pregnancy will be written in for Maggie.
