Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber and starring three of Hollywood’s biggest actors in Gal Gadot, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Ryan Reynolds, Red Notice has finally arrived on Netflix as of Nov. 12 and is quickly getting fans talking!

The massive blockbuster follows FBI profiler John Hartley (Johnson) must team up with the world’s greatest art thief Nolan Booth (Reynolds) in order to capture the world’s most wanted art thief, The Bishop (Gadot). However, this is just the beginning of what proved to be a twisted-filled action-adventure that is one of the most fun movies of 2021!

Warning: Red Notice spoilers ahead.

Red Notice ending explained

While we’re initially led to believe Hartley is a man on a mission to clear his name with help from his unlikely partner, as the film progresses we discover Hartley is actually a thief himself who has been playing Booth from the very beginning.

Even more, he’s partners with The Bishop who was in on the con all along and was secretly working with Hartley all along as he worked to win Booth’s trust so that he could lead them to the third egg — which Booth held the key to tracking down.

Although the trio ends up working together to evade capture from the Interpool agents tracking them down, Hartley and Bishop pull a fast one on Booth in the end in a climactic moment in which they revealed their secret and leave him to take the fall as they made their getaway.

After making their getaway, Hartley and Bishop turn the eggs over to their buyer in exchange for their $300 million payout before double-crossing him by tipping off Interpol. As the film begins to wind down, it appears as though the pair have made off with the money but then Booth shows up on the couple’s boat with some news of his own.

Turns out, Booth was able to escape capture and decided to get some revenge on his former cohorts by tipping Interpol off about their overseas account. With their score gone and Interpol on their way to capture them Booth proposes an alternative to being captured: join him for an even bigger three-person heist.

In the end, Hartley and Bishop decide to take Booth up on his offer but we never learn the details of the heist with the film’s final shot featuring the three walking off into a crowd set against the backdrop of The Louvre in Paris.

Is a Red Notice sequel happening?

Given how Red Notice ended, the biggest question fans are likely to have after watching the movie is whether Netflix is working on a sequel. Clearly, the door was left open for the franchise to continue via this mysterious heist that has brought the three together but is a sequel actually happening?

At this time, Netflix has not announced plans for a Red Notice sequel; however, reports suggest a follow-up could already be in the works and the stars of the film have expressed an interest in teaming up again for a sequel should Netflix give the official greenlight.

Considering the stars of the film are quite sought after, it would be interesting to see how quickly Netflix could put a sequel together. As we’ve seen with its other big films such as Extraction and The Old Guard it can take some time for sequels to come together — especially when they feature some of the biggest and busiest stars around.

Should the film perform well for Netflix, we imagine Netflix will do everything it can to streamline a sequel and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any developments as they come along!
