What are the new Netflix video games?
Netflix launched its newest business venture by introducing five video games to the app. With a strong footing in the TV and movie industry, the streaming giant has decided to enter an industry that is much larger — video games. What games were introduced?
Netflix announced that five games are now included with a Netflix subscription when using the app on an Android phone. Two of the games are based on one of their biggest hit original series, Stranger Things.
The five Netflix video games include:
- Stranger Things: 1984
- Stranger Things 3: The Game
- Shooting Hoops
- Card Blast
- Teeter Up
How to access Netflix video games
Subscribers will see an additional tab and games row when using the app. From there, they can access the games. Netflix users are happy to know that no additional subscription is required, nor are there any advertisements when using the games.
What restrictions are there?
There are a few restrictions. First, the video games are not available on kids profiles. Secondly, a PIN is required to access the games. This is set by the user. A PIN is currently used to help users keep mature content behind a wall, restricting access to minors if they so choose. Finally, Netflix announced that some of the games are available offline.
What devices are the Netflix video games available on?
Right now, the five Netflix video games are only available on Android devices. Games are planned to also launch on Apple iPhones in the future. It is currently unclear if or when games will launch on other streaming devices.
Why is Netflix entering the video game industry?
With stiff competition from Disney+ and HBO Max, Netflix is seeking a way to set itself apart from its competitors. By now including video games in its subscription, Netflix hopes to attract and retain more subscribers.
While other services offer content that Netflix does not, none of them currently offer video games. Will you be playing the new Netflix video games?
