A good Halloween watch list involves balancing the classics with modern marvels and new-to-you horrors. The older you get the more options there are to add to the list. However, there are a few must watch movies that can’t be missed, and we know for vampire and werewolf fans Underworld is a film that very rarely doesn’t make the list.

The 2003 action horror, starring Kate Beckinsale as the death dealing vampire Selene, captures the gothic mood of that era with its aesthetic and its rock heavy soundtrack. The tale is simple enough, there’s a blood feud between the vampires and the Lycans that dates back centuries.

Selene finds herself at a crossroads when she’s drawn to Michael Corvin, who seems to be a target of the Lycans. His position in their feud, however, complicates her standing on the rising tensions and has the potential to pit her against her own family.

When it comes to the truth of why their people are fighting in the first place, Selene may not like the answers she uncovers especially when her loyalties are put to the test.

Underworld spawned an entire franchise that’s spanned five films over the course of 13 years. If you haven’t seen the first one then this Halloween is the perfect time to kick back, relax, and fall into Underworld.
