It Comes At Night
Release Year: 2017
Directed by Trey Edward Shults
Cast: Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Riley Keough
A24 fans, we have a horror movie for you to check out this Halloween! It Comes at Night is Trey Edward Shults’ second film after Krisha (2015) and is definitely creepy enough to watch this spooky season.
It features a star-studded cast of indie darlings including Christopher Abbot, Riley Keough, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Acclaimed actor Joel Edgerton leads the cast, with Your Honor star Carmen Ejogo also starring.
And the cast isn’t the only reason It Comes at Night is a great watch. The premise is as follows: A family living in the woods is faced with an unknown threat outside. All they know is that they must stay inside as much as possible, and especially at night. Once a couple shows up and they offer them help, everything changes for the family.
We learn pretty early on that there’s a highly contagious disease looming outside, but where it comes from and how you get it is a mystery.
Like many independent movies, there’s a lot of ambiguity in It Comes at Night that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.
It Comes at Night is not a traditional horror movie with monsters or ghosts, but it’s psychologically disturbing and totally gripping. If you’re looking for a mysterious film that’ll make you think, add this one to your watch list.
