If you’re a true horror fan, you’ve seen at least one Evil Dead movie. The popular franchise created by Sam Raimi includes three films and one more on the way in 2022. Though the first movie which debuted in 1981 is a classic, the sequel changed everything when it premiered in 1987.

Switching up the tone to feature way more comedy, Evil Dead II sets a standard for the horror-comedy genre. The third film, Army of Darkness, (1992) does the same. If you’re a fan of the original movies, the fourth film, Evil Dead (2013), is a soft reboot, which doesn’t star Bruce Campbell and leans way more into the horror genre.

The upcoming fifth installment, Evil Dead Rise (2022), will not follow Ash Williams’ story, either. We’ll have to wait on a synopsis or trailer for the fifth movie to see what genre it will follow.

The franchise also spawned a series in 2015 called Ash vs Evil Dead, in which Bruce Campbell returns to reprise his iconic role of protagonist Ash Williams. Leaning heavily into comedy, the Starz Original jumps in time 30 years after the original three Evil Dead movies, featuring Ash once again having to save humanity from the Deadites.

Fans of the Evil Dead universe were no doubt excited when this show was announced, and it ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2018 before unfortunately getting canceled. All three seasons are currently streaming on Netflix.
