Director Zack Snyder is known for being a polarizing director. With films under his belt like 300, Dawn of the Dead, Sucker Punch, and Man of Steel, to name a few, people either love or hate his style. When Army of the Dead came out earlier this year, the reception was no different.
The Netflix film follows a group of people planning a casino heist in Las Vegas in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. The premise is fantastic and the cast includes some notable names, including Dave Bautista, Tig Notaro, and Omari Hardwick. Though the performances aren’t particularly strong and there are a couple of plot holes, Army of the Dead is an overall fun movie if you’re looking to simply be entertained.
It’s not exactly scary, but it is action-packed and full of people eating zombies. The VFX is particularly impressive in Army of the Dead, with awesome-looking zombies and even a zombie tiger!
Plus, when having to remove Chris D’Elia from the film due to controversy after he already shot his scenes, they had to digitally insert Tig Notaro in to replace him and you can’t even tell at all. That’s a testament to her acting and the visual effects team.
Army of the Dead is a fun movie for zombie lovers and should definitely be part of your Halloween lineup. And if you love this one, look out for Army of Thieves, the prequel which hits Netflix on Oct. 29, 2021!
