The Conjuring

Release Year: 2013

Directed by James Wan

Cast: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Mackenzie Foy, and more

The Conjuring caught a ton of attention prior to its release when the MPAA rated it R just for being so scary. Of course, this created a ton of pressure to deliver, but with James Wan at the helm, it was in great hands.

The supernatural movie debuted in 2013 and kickstarted a major franchise. It’s definitely a staple watch for horror films of the last decade.

The film is based on two real-life people, Ed and Lorraine Warren, ghost hunters whose paranormal investigations actually inspired The Amityville Horror. The married couple lived in Connecticut and were involved in a few really famous supernatural cases.

Unfortunately, they have since passed away, but their legacy lives on with movies and books. As for the first Conjuring film — which is definitely the best one — we meet a family who moves into a new house and starts experiencing frightening, paranormal disturbances.

Of course, this premise is nothing we haven’t seen before, but the suspense, action-packed scenes, and strong acting performances set this movie apart from the rest. Ed and Lorraine are brought in to help exorcise the curse, and you’ll be left with your jaw dropped with how it all goes down.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga play Ed and Lorraine, respectively, and The Conjuring also features the talents of Lili Taylor, Ron Livingston, Joey King, Mackenzie Foy, and other familiar faces.

If you want a movie that will have you on the edge of your seat, check out The Conjuring this Halloween.
